Trazyn had been walking through a deep trench for quite some time. This was not naturally formed terrain, but the result of bombardment by all manner of heavy artillery. Craters of varying sizes had connected into a line, spreading across the battlefield like a chaotic spiderweb.
Now and then, he could still see the remains of Tyranid biomass and shattered Blackstone bricks amid the vitrified earth.
Trazyn was extremely cautious, diverting much of his core energy to his detection systems. With this specialized enhancement, his sensitivity to the battlefield rose considerably. Even battle-hardened veterans would not possess instincts as sharp as his.
The air trembled uneasily, and even the light filtering into his sensors changed slightly. Trazyn immediately threw himself against the side of the trench and wrapped himself in his cloak.

A shell struck fifteen meters in front of him. Though it had not hit him directly, its explosive payload was terrifyingly powerful.
The trench shook beneath the blast wave, showering him with dust.
Only then did Trazyn pull off his cloak. With a living metal body, he did not need to worry about oxygen, so even if the explosion had created a temporary vacuum, it could not suffocate him.
Still, he had taken the shockwave head-on. Trazyn shook his head, dislodging dust that had seeped into his joints.
It would not affect his movements, but it was immensely unpleasant.
When had the great collector ever been in such a sorry state? Even during those times he had gone to court against Orikan, Trazyn had always managed to escape unscathed through his own cleverness and quick wits.
"Damn it..." Trazyn muttered irritably. "If Orikan were here, his temporal technology would at least mean I wouldn't have to be so restrained."
