"Put me down! Leave me here!" the Aeldari shouted angrily, but she had little strength to resist Mar's movements. All she could do was glare fiercely at him through her damaged helmet.
"Heh, I've seen far crueler looks than that. You can't scare a warrior who fights for The Emperor!" Mar said disdainfully.
The Aeldari was much lighter than he had imagined. Mar felt as though he were carrying the middle-school-aged daughter of the coffee shop owner next door.
"Put me down! Let me die here!" the Aeldari cried angrily again, but before she could say anything more, a fit of coughing cut off her next words.
Mar carried the Aeldari onward for a while. Sometimes, he felt as if he were carrying a light corpse, but the Aeldari would always cough twice at just the right moment, reminding Mar that she was still alive.
