The silent desert held nothing but the crackle of burning firewood and the Emperor's laughter.
He was telling jokes. Judging by the outcome, he was the only one amused by them. Everyone else listened helplessly and kept making faces at Malcador, hinting that he should get the Emperor to quiet down for a while.
Malcador shook his head with a helpless smile. He merely hugged his wooden staff and blanket, closed his eyes, and rested.
Having a fire to keep warm on a cold night was a luxury. Malcador did not want to make any large movements and let the warmth he had painstakingly gathered escape.
"Ha ha..." Erda covered her mouth and chuckled softly, her smiling eyes never leaving the Emperor's broad, powerful frame.
Oerpeson wiped down his spear again and again, a rolled cigarette clenched between his teeth. He interrupted the Emperor's joke and asked skeptically, "What did you say you wanted to do? Save humanity?"
"That's right." The Emperor spoke confidently, with a confidence so excessive it bordered on arrogance.
Oerpeson exhaled a puff of smoke and gestured with his lips for the Emperor to continue explaining his plan.
"We're going to build an enormous wall and keep all of Chaos on the other side. And we'll make those four bastards pay for it."
"Pfft..." Malcador, who had his eyes closed, chuckled softly at the Emperor's description, but voiced no objection.
"A wall? Just with the lot of us? I don't think that's enough." Oerpeson shook his head. He did not think it was a good plan.
"Of course it won't just be us. We need to establish a legion, and the leaders who command them will be the children of Erda and me. They will inherit the strengths of both Erda and me and become guardians
