The Webway, a special transportation network built by the Old Ones during the War in Heaven, possessed the miraculous ability to deploy troops to another location in an instant.
If sublight travel through the real universe was like riding a bicycle down a dirt road in your little county town, then Warp travel was a car on the highway, and the Webway was a supersonic aircraft in the sky.
No one knew just how terrifyingly vast the Old Ones had built the Webway during the War in Heaven. Perhaps every planet had a Webway transit point; they simply had not been discovered yet.
The Webway came in all sizes. At its largest, it could swallow an entire planet; at its smallest, it might only allow a single person to pass through. Like the aorta and the countless tiny capillaries within a human body, it spread throughout the body—and throughout the entire universe.
These Webways were the most precious inheritance the Old Ones had left to the Aeldari. These Aeldari, whose souls were bright and delectable, could no longer rely on their exquisite piloting skills to navigate the dangerous Warp. They could only depend on the dilapidated Webway, filled with all manner of damage and hazardous zones, to preserve their race.
Perhaps the Webway had been built within the Warp, or perhaps it had been built in a higher-dimensional space. But no one could explain what the Old Ones had intended. After all, a place like the Warp muddled the very concept of dimensions; even the order of time and space was utterly chaotic there.
Though the Webway contained trapped armies of daemons, Orks, and other bizarre creatures, it was still considerably safer than the chaotic and ever-changing Warp. At the very least, one could not see twisted daemon faces on
