Under Dok's orders, the merchant ship's crew followed the Navigator's guidance, deviated from its original course in the Warp, and fled relentlessly toward the Teda Galaxy under pursuit from the Orks.
Battered by the overwhelming firepower of the Ork warships, the merchant ship barely held together as it reached the Mandeville Point in the Warp.
"Warp exit countdown: ten, nine, eight... one."
On the merchant ship's bridge, the pilot repeatedly called out reminders as the many crew members prepared to exit the Warp. Once the Wanderer-class merchant ship reached the Mandeville Point in the Warp, its Warp engine activated.
The membrane between realspace and the Warp was pierced by the Warp engine.
With a soft whoosh, the entire merchant ship vanished from the Warp.
The Ork fleet, which had been pursuing the merchant ship relentlessly, also arrived at the Mandeville Point and followed closely behind as it exited the Warp.
"Jump successful."
The Wanderer-class merchant ship appeared at the Mandeville Point in the Teda Galaxy. At the crew's cries, everyone aboard erupted in joyful cheers.
"Accelerate away from the Mandeville Point. Head deeper into the system."
Dok coldly cut off the crew's celebration at having escaped the Warp and shaken off the Orks, issuing his orders without emotion.
"Yes." Though Dok had interrupted their joy, none of the crew dared defy his orders. Though they were called crewmen, most of them were slaves of the Dok family.
The merchant ship's engines were pushed to maximum power as it sped through the Kuiper Belt of the Teda Galaxy and headed deeper into the system.
The Teda Galaxy was merely an ordinary hive world. It was neither wealthy nor militarily strong, so no forces stood guard at the Mandeville Point beyond the Kuiper Belt. No one knew of the merchant ship and Orks arriving from the Warp.
In Totka City of the Underhive, squads of Defense Force soldiers in exoskeleton-assisted power armor patrolled the streets and alleys with meticulous discipline. They carried Ripper Rifles and wore mortal-grade Power Swords at their waists. Whenever they encountered anyone trying to exploit the chaos to commit evil, they would shout a warning. If that had no effect, they would shoot the offender dead.
With the Defense Force stationed there, Totka City's public security had improved tremendously.
Some gang members had survived by throwing away their weapons and hiding. After discovering that the towering, imposing giants in magnificent armor had left, their hearts, which had finally settled, began to stir again.
But before long, these nearly two-meter-tall people in black armor took over the entire city. Whenever they found someone attempting evil, they shot them dead on the spot. The gang members, already trembling in terror, no longer dared reveal their true colors.
In several relatively open areas of Totka City, platforms had been erected. Two massive supply transport trucks were parked beside them, with ten armed Defense Force soldiers standing guard nearby.
Below the platforms stood dense lines of emaciated Underhive poor. Every one of them queued quietly, heads lowered and bodies trembling, not daring to make the slightest loud disturbance.
In front of three Defense Force soldiers stood a table piled with food and water.
"Line up properly. Come forward one at a time."
A helmetless Defense Force soldier shouted as he directed the poor.
The first poor man stepped up before the foremost soldier. After giving him a glance, the soldier took out a syringe and injected a vaccine into his arm beneath the man's terrified gaze.
"Go collect your food," the soldier said gently to the frightened man.
"Yes, yes." The poor man nodded and bowed repeatedly, then hurried toward the next soldier.
The ordinary poor of Totka City had long been numbed by the bloody exploitation of the major gangs. They had long since lost any thought of resistance. Those who had dared stand up and resist had all been brutally tortured to death.
The first poor man walked up to the soldier distributing food. The soldier picked up a large loaf of bread and a can of meat from the table and handed them to him.
"This is one day's food. You can come here again at this time tomorrow to collect more."
As he handed over the food, the soldier did not forget to explain.
The poor man accepted the food with both hands and murmured, "Thank you for your mercy, my lord."
Hearing the man's praise, the soldier waved his hand. "Don't thank me. Praise the merciful Lord of the Stars."
Though the poor man did not understand the meaning of those words, he still murmured, "Praise the Lord of the Stars."
After quietly praising the Lord of the Stars, he continued to the next soldier. The soldier took out a large bottle of mineral water and handed it to him, saying at the same time,
"Praise the Lord of the Stars."
The poor man echoed him.
"Praise the Lord of the Stars."
Seeing how cooperative the poor man was, and that he felt no discomfort at worshipping the Lord of the Stars, the soldier knew he was not a fanatic of any Chaos God.
In the world of Warhammer, one could believe in no Chaos God or Daemon Prince, but suddenly changing one's faith was a terrifying matter.
Especially for ordinary people. The Chaos Gods might not care about the meager power of faith one could offer, but once one changed faith, they would notice.
The vaccinations and food distribution proceeded in an orderly fashion.
After a bald, muscular man accepted the drinking water handed to him by a soldier, he shouted fanatically beneath the soldier's watchful gaze.
"For the Four-Armed Emperor!"
The moment the bald man shouted the name of a Chaos God, a soldier standing guard nearby swiftly raised his rifle and fired at him with fast, precise movements.
Bang.
After the gunshot, the fanatical strong man's head was blown apart by a single shot from the soldier's Ripper Rifle, and he collapsed dead.
"Ah... ah!"
At the sound of gunfire, the poor, already like startled birds, saw the scene before them and instantly screamed in terror.
Chaos broke out for a moment. Some crouched down and covered their heads, while others tried to run in every direction.
"Quiet! Quiet!" the soldiers on guard shouted, repeatedly firing their rifles into the sky.
Bang! Bang!
Under the intimidation of the thunderous gunfire, the poor's terror was forcibly brought under control, and the situation gradually settled.
"He was a follower of a Chaos God. As long as you are not followers of Chaos Gods, you will be safe."
The guard held his rifle aloft in his right hand, his voice carried across the entire square by his helmet.
Under the reassurance of more than ten soldiers, the poor gradually recovered, and order returned to the scene.
