After class, Silan visited Hagrid's Hut again.
As before, he brought Fang some treats.
"Friend! Fang likes this friend."
Fang caught the scent from a long way off and ran over to greet Silan, circling him eagerly and rubbing against his legs.
Silan rubbed Fang's head and fed him a roasted lamb rib.
"How does it taste?"
"Mmm, mmm, mmm..."
Fang was too busy wolfing down the meat to speak clearly. He simply wagged his tail furiously to show how delicious it was.
"I have something to ask you. As my friend, you'll help me, won't you, Fang?"
Silan asked with an air of casual indifference.
"Of course, woof!" Fang held the rib bone in his mouth. "We're good friends, woof!"
"I've been studying magical creatures lately, and I've found very little written about three-headed dogs. So I wanted to ask you: what do three-headed dogs like to play with?"
That much was true.
"What they like to play with..." Fang thought for a moment, the bone still in his mouth. "I don't know about other three-headed dogs, but Fluffy really likes chewing on balls."
"Chewing on balls?"
"Yeah. Whenever he goes into the Forbidden Forest, he picks out round stones to chew on."
I suppose that's a dog thing, Silan thought.
Three-headed dogs might be magical creatures, but they were still dogs.
The problem was finding a ball that could stand up to a three-headed dog's rough treatment. That left Silan in a bit of a quandary.
Lost in thought, Silan walked with Fang to the front of Hagrid's Hut.
The hulking Hagrid sat on a low stool, dipping a boar-bristle brush into a wooden bucket and scrubbing the mud off his rubber boots.
