In the white mist, Ya Ji felt her whole body unable to exert any strength. She wanted to call for help, but could only emit a faint sound.
At first, Ya Ji simply landed in the forest out of habit, slowing her pace towards the outer edges. Relying on her camouflage, she could hide perfectly, waiting for Luo Yun to drive the herbivore dragon herd over.
But gradually, white mist began to appear within the forest. Perhaps it was due to her own confidence in her strength, or perhaps it was because the mist contained toxins that affected the senses.
In any case, by the time Ya Ji realized what was happening, she was completely enveloped in the dense fog. Her mobility had been greatly weakened. Her normally powerful wings felt as heavy as a thousand pounds, making even flapping them a struggle, let alone carrying her into the air.
She tried to call out loudly to Luo Yun in the sky, but it was as if her vocal cords had been removed; only a faint sound could escape.
This sudden turn of events completely panicked her. She moved her legs, thinking that as long as she left this forest, as long as she appeared on the open ground, her Male Fire Dragon would surely find her! He would surely be able to bring her out of this deadly poisonous fog.
Unfortunately, after taking just a few steps, a wave of weakness washed over her. Her legs seemed to disobey her, going soft and collapsing to the ground. The strength she had always prided herself on was being clearly stripped from her body. Her stamina began to drain rapidly, and fatigue made her drowsy.
Just then, a wave of heat washed over her, and a ball of orange-yellow flame descended beside Ya Ji. Driven by Luo Yun's full power, the surrounding flames forcefully created a vacuum zone within the dense fog.
Accompanied by Luo Yun's tense, loud roar, Ya Ji's previously drowsy head suddenly cleared. She braced herself and looked at Luo Yun.
Unable to speak, she could only let out a soft whimper of grievance, trying to move her body closer to Luo Yun to express her current panic.
Luo Yun had never seen Ya Ji so fragile and afraid. Her pitiful appearance was a stark contrast to the strong, fierce, and all-conquering image he held of her in his memory. Even the emotional side she showed when interacting with Luo Yun was filled with tolerance and protection, as if she could support anything for him.
To see Ya Ji now displaying such uncharacteristic timidity made Luo Yun realize what she must have gone through. If Luo Yun had arrived any later, Ya Ji would likely have been in grave danger.
Even if her life hadn't been taken, her body would have suffered irreversible damage afterward.
Luo Yun's anger surged, and he let out a roar towards the sky.
But... he could only roar in frustration.
The dense fog had become so thick that it obscured vision. The Fire Dragon's normally proud eyesight was useless in the mist.
What was most infuriating was that this poisonous fog was clearly caused by the Mist Dragon. It hadn't specifically targeted Luo Yun and Ya Ji, so there was a high probability that the Mist Dragon wasn't nearby. Even if Luo Yun wanted to try and repel the creature to clear the fog, he couldn't.
After venting his frustration, Luo Yun could only endure the flames. Once Ya Ji's own poison resistance kicked in, allowing her to barely regain her mobility, he protected her and they headed out of the forest.
The flame aura provided by the Body of Flames wasn't infinite. These external flames consumed the flames stored within Luo Yun's fire sac. Although the Fire Attraction characteristic allowed him to absorb flames to achieve a certain degree of circulation, the consumption from burning through the poisonous fog meant that the flames recovered by the Fire Attraction characteristic were significantly reduced.
With this imbalance, the flames would eventually be depleted. They had to leave the foggy area before that happened.
Due to the short time and the complex and abundant poison Ya Ji had inhaled, her body was still weak and unable to fly. She could only walk on the ground.
Since gaining the ability to fly, Luo Yun had rarely spent such long periods with his toes curled up, walking on the ground. It felt a little unaccustomed.
However, as time passed, even after Luo Yun and Ya Ji had left the forest and reached the previous hunting grounds, the dense fog persisted.
Luo Yun's heart sank. This situation could only mean that their movement path was the same as the Mist Dragon's.
The thought of this possibility gave Luo Yun a headache.
He glanced at Ya Ji, and as if by telepathy, she immediately understood his meaning.
Spreading her wings, she stirred up a gust of wind, trying her best to flap them. However, after taking flight for less than two meters, she fell heavily. She shook her head at Luo Yun in disappointment.
It seemed they couldn't escape by flying.
Luo Yun scanned his surroundings. The visibility in the dense fog was less than five meters. This limited view made Luo Yun realize that they hadn't moved away from the fog at all; in fact, they might have moved closer to its center.
Now, Luo Yun had only two options.
One was to grit his teeth and continue walking in the fog until Ya Ji's stamina recovered, and then they could fly away.
The other was to have Ya Ji hold on while Luo Yun quickly flew into the sky to determine the fog's movement direction and any weak spots, then return to bring Ya Ji towards that direction.
However, both choices were extremely dangerous. His flame reserves were likely insufficient to sustain them in fog of this density for too long.
Ya Ji's body could not withstand a second wave of damage in such thick poisonous fog.
So, in the end, the only option was to continue enduring.
Having made up his mind, Luo Yun decided to lead Ya Ji back the way they came. Since they knew their path coincided with the Mist Dragon's, they would retrace their steps and head in the opposite direction. This way, they might be able to leave the foggy area before his flames were completely depleted.
Just then, Luo Yun's Mind's Eye suddenly activated. There seemed to be movement near the pond not far away!
The water surface was being disturbed by something!
Was something drinking water?
This discovery shocked Luo Yun greatly!
In the Mist Dragon's poisonous fog, the only ones who could leisurely drink water were either the Mist Dragon itself or extremely powerful monsters.
Whether it was the Mist Dragon or a monster, neither boded well for Luo Yun and Ya Ji.
Luo Yun warily looked in that direction. Suddenly, a purple figure streaked through the mist, then vanished completely.
However, it only disappeared from his sight. With the enhancement of his Mind's Eye, Luo Yun's senses were greatly amplified. A transparent figure, large in size, with a similar head and tail and a pair of small wings on its back, appeared within Luo Yun's perception.
"Mist Dragon!!"
Luo Yun immediately confirmed the other party's identity. The Mist Dragon had many distinguishing features, but perhaps to protect its head, which was a weak point, its tail first fanned out, followed by a long, slender, curled tail.
From a distance, the Mist Dragon's shifting coloration could easily mislead an enemy's vision, making it difficult to distinguish head from tail.
And in Luo Yun's perception, the Mist Dragon seemed to be staring at them at that moment.
