"This is the place."
Pietro lowered the shovel from his shoulder. In the next instant, he became a silver-white blur too fast for ordinary human eyes to follow, leaving only a rapid series of faint rustling sounds in the air, like fabric rubbing together.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh! The shovel became a spinning wheel of silver-gray light in Pietro's hands, moving frantically at speeds beyond human vision. Soil erupted from the grave as though blasted out by an invisible explosion, spraying backward.
The grave Brock Rumlow and his men had just painstakingly filled began sinking at a speed almost impossible to track.
The entire process was unbelievably fast, as though someone had set time to thirty-two times normal speed.
Within a few breaths, the two-meter-deep grave had been dug open again, exposing the utterly unremarkable wooden coffin below.
"Phew..." Pietro's figure solidified once more at the edge of the grave, as though he had never moved.
Neither flushed nor out of breath, he casually planted the shovel beside him, driving its sharp blade deep into the soft soil.
Then he reached into a pocket of his combat uniform and took out a fist-sized, silver-white spherical device made of an unknown material.
Its surface was smooth, with no visible ports or buttons. Only a faint blue point of light at its center pulsed slowly, like a heart.
Pietro gently pressed his thumb against the sphere, then tossed it toward Captain America's coffin.
Hum...
The spherical device emitted a clear hum, and the blue light on its surface suddenly brightened.
Instead of landing on the coffin, it hovered steadily in midair.
Several tiny openings then appeared on the underside of the sphere, revealing the extraordinarily precise tractor-field generators within.
A cone of brilliant blue light shot from the generators, enveloping the wooden coffin
