Clearly, Rayne's betrayal had not been a spur-of-the-moment decision. Or perhaps it could not even be called betrayal; he had received such orders from the very beginning.

Though he could not claim to know much, Pei Geduo had still looked into the organization known as the Civic Temple. In his eyes, this organization, which had survived for ten thousand years since ancient times, was far too unbelievable.

He did not believe that, without outside support, an organization could remain so unyielding and resilient.

No schisms, no infighting, no decline. It had even been able to lie dormant so quietly for so long.

It was plainly illogical.

But if this organization had been an extension of some powerful force from the beginning, then everything made sense.
