A gigantic maw formed from terrifyingly immense greed lunged up at him from below.
Pei Geduo could no longer evade it. Its sharp teeth clamped onto his leg, tearing at his radiance. His pain burst forth, dazzling and irresistible in the void like glittering diamonds.
He swung his wand, causing the beast to vanish abruptly at the very moment of its victory.
He was about to collapse, and they seemed able to sense that his resistance was nearing its breaking point. They crowded together eagerly, every demon hunter craving his life and fighting to seize the finest part of him.
Pei Geduo's energy gradually drained away, and his wand was fading into nothingness.
How tragic it would be to perish here after glimpsing such an enticing prophecy. He did not want such an end.
But struggling was futile. If he forcibly pressed his spirit back into his flesh now, it would only make him more vulnerable during the process.
Suddenly, a long, resonant bell stirred the Vast Ocean. The crisp sound left the demon hunters bewildered. Then a sacred mass of light emerged from the surging waves, piercing the dark bodies of those hunters like a lit candle and cleansing their evil essence.
This was a form and will tempered through countless trials, a compassionate power forged for salvation.
Clear eyes, soft white fur, and a pair of cloven hooves emerged from the light. Pei Geduo realized help had arrived. He saw the illusory outline of a doe, far larger than any real animal. It leaped up and charged through the demon hunters, scattering them with rams and kicks. The gentle light around it forced those bloodthirsty hunters to flee.
Within the white doe's body, Pei Geduo glimpsed the will driving it—a distant figure, so familiar.
