In the end, it escaped—a prey slipping free of the net.

Although Guk could be certain that it would be unable to cause trouble for a long time, it had still broken free, escaping the death trap he had laid.

His boundless fury was ignited to its peak when the human reinforcements arrived. He led his guards into the bewildered soldiers, utterly routing them in a massacre before Guk shifted his position once more.

Now that the enemy's greatest problem had vanished, the key point they had defended for so long, C3 Area, became far less secure.

Though Guk did not know what the humans called that valley, even he could see that controlling it would cut the entire canyon in half. It was not merely where several rail lines converged, but also one of the few broad plains within the canyon.

To seize it, Guk once again gathered the forces at his disposal.

"Die!"

Silas drove his fist down hard, smashing it into the monster's plated forehead and shattering the bone beneath.

Yet it did not die. It answered with a roar, its absurdly massive jaws snapping shut around one of his wrists. He hammered the ground even harder, pushing his armor's power systems to their limit and wringing more strength from somewhere within his exhausted body.

It took two more blows to dull the fury behind those unnatural crimson eyes, then the third sent the massive beast crashing to the ground, sliding down the inner wall of the trench.

Silas gathered his strength and climbed the slope, feeling his way through a wave of falling debris.

A sharp pain spasmed through his left leg, becoming harder and harder to ignore. His Star Dart Gun had been smashed into scrap, and his armor was covered in dents and cracks.
