The flesh-mutant staggered under a string of close-range direct shots as a squad of veterans calmly poured ammunition into it.

The monster was already covered in wounds and could no longer endure such prolonged punishment.

Its knees suddenly buckled, and it crashed heavily onto the floor, lying still like a freshly killed corpse.

"Cease fire."

Elena cautiously rose from behind the metal block where she had been hiding. After Jackson nodded, the support squad stopped firing at the enemy.

The thing twitched a few times and tried to get back up. The witch carefully approached it, and it turned its head, clearly noticing her.

Then she raised the black short staff she had kept at her side and held it where the monster could see it.

"Exterminate mutants."

It spoke again in a shrill voice, though this time it sounded somewhat indistinct.

"Defend—"

"Cancel the order," Elena said slowly, one word at a time, her braid coiled behind her back like the tail of a tense cat.

"Cut off power."

She hesitated slightly, but in the end, it did not attack her.

Time seemed to freeze.

"Cutting off power."

The monster suddenly said,

"Entering standby mode. Repairs required."

It stopped moving just like that.

"What the hell were these people doing inside the dam?"

The chief of staff who had brought the soldiers over for support stared doubtfully at the dead priest on the ground.

"Good question."

Jackson picked up his hat and put it on with an unconcerned air.

In truth, his shirt was already soaked through, and he smelled even worse than an Ork.

"Do you have any ideas?"

He then turned to Elena.

"Nothing."

That was her answer. She looked just as bewildered as everyone else.

"But you made it stop."

"Because its control was weakened."
