After half a month of marching, Guk suddenly realized that he seemed to have forgotten something—or overlooked a problem.
The road to the Essex Great Plains was not smooth.
The Howling Mountains, a north-to-south dividing line, separated the Vaka Rainforest from the Essex Plain like two different worlds. In the past, they had also marked the border between Beastland and the New California Republic, the boundary between civilization and savagery.
Guk had long since shattered that boundary, but the mountains remained. Their treacherous terrain, with an average elevation of over two thousand meters, had become the greatest obstacle of this expedition.
Worse still, the Orks could easily climb over mountains and ridges, and vehicles could be transported to the other side through previously excavated tunnels. But the Guk Gargant, that colossal machine over forty meters tall, could only halt before the mountains.
No terrain could let it pass unless Guk was willing to take a detour through the coastal plains near the Desolate Sea. But that would mean at least another half month of travel.
Guk had never been the sort to admit defeat. Not even mountains could shake his resolve.
If there was no road, then he would make one himself!
When they reached the Howling Mountains, Guk absorbed another wave of troops. On the former homeland of the Wendigo Church, Orks had likewise flourished and multiplied.
He could not count how many Orks followed him, but he believed he had that kind of strength.
Thus, at a single command from the overlord, the countless Orks were driven to a selected location. It had originally been nothing more than a river valley over thirty meters wide, but Guk intended to carve out a hundred-meter-wide road here!
Over a hundred tons of high-explosive mushroom bombs were detonated. Then modified heavy
