"No, no..."
Glaus sighed.
"You're driving me crazy, sir. Give me something else to do. Maybe that'll make me... feel better."
Mountbatten nodded.
"Good man. Well, when we start building the defenses, we'll need some capable people. Do you know the local militia leaders?"
"Of course."
Mountbatten checked his watch, then pointed at an off-road vehicle beside the garage.
"It's yours."
"What's the mission?"
"We need to complete the defensive deployment of the main sector before 1500, no matter what... According to the reports coming in, at least a hundred thousand Orks are heading toward Dunwich from this direction. To finish the defenses in time, we'll have to make some sacrifices. And if things get worse..."
Mountbatten was actually putting it rather mildly. According to the intelligence they had seen earlier in Dunwich's military conference room, at least a million Orks were converging on Dunwich from three directions, all of them highly capable Ork legions.
Their objective was obvious—break the spine of the New California Republic. Once Dunwich fell, several undefended states lay beyond it.
The emergency-mobilized forces were already on their way to reinforce them, but everything took time.
The major city of Dunwich concerned the survival of several states, as well as the lives of millions of residents.
"What happens after the defenses are set up, sir?"
"Then we show those freaks humanity's fighting spirit. And don't look so pessimistic. Including the militia, we've already deployed nearly four hundred thousand troops. Don't forget the thirty thousand men from those Old World regiments. General Ben Lier has informed us that the Civic Temple Air Force will redeploy to the front in a few hours, and there's word that Titans will be coming to help as well."
"That does sound reassuring."
Glaus nodded.
"Let's hope this disaster ends here."
"Don't
