Background / History
Shrek uses a noble-recommendation enrollment system. Applicants without a recommendation letter normally require talent exceptional enough for the academy to recruit them directly; Xuan Xiao entered using a purchased recommendation letter 1.
By the time of Xuan Xiao’s enrollment, the academy’s prestige and internal standards were already contested. Its freshman rewards included a core-disciple position and assistance hunting Soul Beasts, incentives Xuan Xiao dismissed as inadequate for true geniuses. Mu En privately acknowledged that Shrek had become complacent and had forgotten its original purpose 11.
Shrek recruited Xuan Xiao despite his status as a twelve-year-old Level 39 Soul Master. Mu En and Yan Shaozhe recognized his potential, but Mu En warned against trying to bind him to the academy through pressure or manipulation 2 3.
Xuan Zi’s attempt to forcibly take Xuan Xiao as a disciple triggered a major confrontation. Xuan Xiao summoned four Light Bone Dragons and threatened to destroy the academy; Mu En ultimately compensated him with a complete set of Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Bones to settle the dispute 43 44 131.
Campus and Assets
- Dormitories — New students may be assigned sparse rooms without private bathrooms; Xuan Xiao was placed in Room 109 3.
- Sea God’s Lake / Sea God’s Pavilion — Built over the ruins of the former Spirit Worship Hall. The Angel God Statue was buried beneath the site and later excavated from a thousand-meter-deep pit 80 81.
- Golden Tree — A central academy landmark and strategic target. An evil soul master attacked it after using captured Shrek members as hostages 79.
- Angel God Statue — A damaged, over-hundred-meter statue depicting a six-winged female angel wielding an Angel Sword. Shrek surrendered it to Electrolux in exchange for treatment for Huo Yuhao, Xuan Xiao, Xuan Zi, and Long Xiaoyao 81 82.
Leadership and Organization
- Mu En — Shrek’s principal and Ultimate Douluo; he directs major academy decisions, including the punishment of Zhou Yi, the Angel God Statue exchange, tournament training, and Shrek’s later pivot toward Soul Tool education 19 81 82 178.
- Xuan Zi — Rank 98 Gluttonous Douluo, Shrek’s second-strongest expert, and commander of the Shrek Inspection Corps 42.
- Yan Shaozhe — Head of the Martial Soul Department; he is held accountable by Mu En for failures under his management 19.
- Sea God’s Pavilion — Shrek’s senior leadership body, whose elders were present during the negotiations with Xuan Xiao and the academy’s later crises 44 178.
- Shrek Inspection Corps — An academy force in which Xuan Xiao was offered a one-year advisory position as a condition for receiving a high-quality fourth Soul Ring 12.
Major Events
Zhou Yi’s punishment
Yan Shaozhe disclosed that Zhou Yi’s harsh teaching had caused deaths, permanent disabilities, and harm to expelled students. Mu En ordered her cultivation crippled, imposed permanent imprisonment in Shrek’s dungeon, and required compensation for victims 19.
Zhou Yi was later released after Fan Yu became a Titled Douluo and quasi-Level Nine Soul Engineer, fulfilling the condition Mu En had set for the possibility of her release 178.
Attack on Shrek and the Angel God Statue exchange
During the Soul Master Tournament, a Holy Spirit Cult pawn attacked Shrek’s forces, drew its strongest defenders away, captured Yan Shaozhe, Ma Xiaotao, Huo Yuhao, and Wang Dong, then detonated his Soul Core near the Golden Tree 79.
Seeking treatment for the death energy contaminating the captives, Mu En accepted Hurricane Giant Tower’s condition to surrender the Angel God Statue. Electrolux drained Sea God’s Lake, retrieved the statue through his Undead Demi-Plane, and cured the affected group 80 81 82.
Tournament decline
Shrek entered the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Soul Fighting Tournament amid severe public hostility. Kani’s broadcasts exposed allegations concerning Tang San, Dai Mubai, Gu Rong, Chen Xin, and Yan Feng, leading spectators to boo Shrek, throw objects at its contestants, and openly reject its claim to moral authority 115 116.
Despite intensive virtual training at Hurricane Giant Tower, Shrek suffered decisive defeats against the Sun Moon Imperial Soul Guidance Academy. Its strongest team surrendered in under one minute after Yan Feng incapacitated multiple members, including Tang Yin and Ma Xiaotao 85 159 160.
Xuan Xiao also arranged the tournament bracket to deny Shrek a top-three finish and prevent it from receiving Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast Soul Spirits 157.
Auction losses and conflict with Hurricane Giant Tower
Xuan Xiao exploited Shrek’s needs during an auction, using staged bidding and misleading items to force the academy into major expenditures. Shrek paid four million Gold Soul Coins for an eighth-grade Soul Tool valued at less than two and a half million, then continued spending heavily on Soul-Locking Pills, the Soul-Breaking Pill, Soul Spirits, and Void Mystic Ice 133 135 138 140.
Its final bid for Void Mystic Ice reached sixty billion Gold Soul Coins, including two sets of Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Bones appraised at five billion each by Xu Jiawei 140.
Post-tournament crisis
After further losses, including the deaths or disabling of many senior members, Shrek’s foundation was described as severely damaged and near collapse 172.
Fan Yu proposed developing a Level Nine Fixed Soul Guidance Artillery Shell for deterrence, though Shrek lacked the technology and a true Level Nine Soul Engineer. Mu En therefore ordered Yan Shaozhe to seek an exchange-student program with the Sun Moon Imperial Soul Guidance Academy and instructed Huo Yuhao to study Soul Tools 178.
Reputation
Shrek’s self-image as the continent’s guardian and foremost academy clashes with widespread criticism of its conduct. Its own students argue that the academy’s past contributions are being ignored, while outsiders characterize Shrek as arrogant, hypocritical, and unwilling to recognize its faults 115 116.
The Angel Legion further damaged Shrek’s standing by responding to evil soul master incidents far faster than the Shrek Inspection Corps. The Legion’s stated policy was to investigate motives, permit wrongly persecuted evil soul masters to take revenge against those responsible, and then execute them because they had still chosen the path of evil 177.
Relationships
- Hurricane Giant Tower — Hostile rival. Xuan Xiao repeatedly exploits Shrek’s vulnerabilities, strips it of resources through auctions, and undermines its tournament position 133 140 157.
- Sun Moon Imperial Soul Guidance Academy — Rival academy and prospective exchange-program partner; Shrek seeks access to its Soul Tool knowledge out of necessity 178 180.
- Star Luo Royal Academy — Tournament rival represented by Xuan Xiao; its withdrawal into the losers’ bracket helped produce Shrek’s semifinal against the Sun Moon team 158.
- Angel Legion — Public competitor to the Shrek Inspection Corps, whose superior speed and discipline expose the corps’ inefficiency 177.
- Holy Spirit Cult — Hostile force responsible for the attack that damaged the Golden Tree and contaminated several Shrek members with death energy 79.
