Pokémon League Calendar, June 24th.
My name is Jiang Jing. By the time you read this, I will already be dead (crossed out). I've been in this world for nearly three months. No, that's not right; I can't say I "came" to this world, as I've always belonged here. It's just that a "minor" change occurred.
Over three hundred years ago, during the end of the Ming Dynasty, the sky shattered and the earth shook. The entire world underwent a cataclysmic transformation: Pokémon descended into reality.
As a teenager who grew up watching countless episodes of the Pokémon anime and playing games like Ruby and Emerald, I was instantly electrified.
At the time, the opening line of the Original Series theme song played involuntarily in my mind.
"I've caught a Pokémon!"
I was so excited back then that I couldn't wait to grab a Poké Ball and head into the wild to catch one.
But reality slapped me hard in the face. When I learned that a single Poké Ball cost two hundred yuan, I instantly lost my composure.
Although my ideals were plump and reality was skeletal, I would never give up on becoming a Trainer.
One last thing: damn it, when will I finally get my first Pokémon!
Jiang Jing sat at his desk, set down his pen, and picked up his notebook. It had a black cover, and what was once a thick volume was now reduced to a thin layer of pages.
"Hiss!"
He tore off the page filled with his handwriting, a move he had performed many times before, crumpled it into a ball, and tossed it into the trash can beside him.
"Sigh!"
He let out a heavy sigh and muttered to himself, "Who writes a diary if they're a normal person?"
"Who would actually write their inner thoughts in a diary?"
After venting, Jiang Jing closed the notebook and placed it on top of his other books. Seeing it looked a bit crooked, he reached out to straighten it.
He had been transmigrated for three months. The world was both familiar and strange, with many places having changed drastically. He had no one to confide in, so he could only vent by writing in his diary in secret. Fearing discovery, he tore out every page as soon as he finished it.
He glanced at his roommate across the room, who was hidden behind curtains on his bed playing on his phone, then looked at the four empty desks nearby.
This was a standard six-person dorm, with beds above and desks below, complete with an en-suite bathroom.
Most people would assume this was a university dormitory, but unfortunately, it was a public middle school dorm.
Jiang Jing was currently attending Rongcheng No. 8 Middle School. The school's overall ranking was in the lower-middle tier among all Rongcheng Middle Schools, and almost anyone could get in as long as their high school entrance exam scores weren't too terrible.
Jiang Jing checked the time on his phone: 11:45. He had wanted to scroll through Douyin for a while, but he really wasn't in the mood today. He tucked his phone under his pillow, pulled the curtains shut, covered himself with his quilt, and went straight to sleep.
The next day.
"Ding ding ding!"
Jiang Jing was awakened by his phone alarm. After turning it off, the screen displayed the time: six o'clock.
He climbed down from his bed and walked straight to the balcony washbasin. The first thing that caught his eye was a black sink with a stone slab mounted on the wall and a massive mirror hanging above it.
Next to the sink was a washing machine of an unknown brand, its logo seemingly designed with Psyduck as the prototype.
Jiang Jing picked up his electric toothbrush and began to wash up. Three minutes later, after splashing his face with water, he felt completely refreshed. He looked at himself in the mirror.
He was 176 centimeters tall. At only sixteen, he could still grow; before he transmigrated, he had only reached 175. He didn't know why he had grown taller after the transmigration.
His build was well-proportioned, and one could even see the curves of his muscles and an eight-pack, though not yet particularly defined. He was the classic example of someone who looked lean in clothes but had muscle underneath.
He also had short, jet-black hair, a handsome face with sharp, well-defined features, and bright eyes. He looked like a combination of Yang Yang, Louis Koo, Daniel Wu, and Eddie Peng. In short, he was drop-dead gorgeous.
Well, he hadn't been that handsome in his previous life—only about seventy percent of this. But now, he had not only grown taller but also better-looking. After he first transmigrated, he had looked exactly as he did in his past life, but over the last three months, he had grown taller and more handsome by the day.
He didn't know the reason, but he suspected it had to do with the bead-shaped mark on his chest.
In his previous life, he had bought a cheap Arceus figure on Taobao, which came with a colorful bead as a gift.
When he asked customer service what it was, since it hadn't appeared in the anime or the movies, they replied that they didn't know either.
He eventually concluded that the merchant had probably just grabbed a random bead from home and tossed it into the package.
The day after he received the package, he went to sleep and transmigrated, and the bead-shaped mark appeared on his chest.
Although he didn't know what it was yet, he felt it was what had brought him to this world. Having read countless web novels, Jiang Jing intuitively believed this would be his "golden finger." Even though he didn't know what effect it had, it gave him the confidence to rise to the top.
Therefore, he wasn't panicked at all; this bead was his greatest source of security.
While he was washing up, his other roommates began to wake up one by one.
A guy about 175 centimeters tall, with an average build and a somewhat handsome face, walked into the bathroom, bleary-eyed, and said while peeing, "Brother Jing, how come you get up so early every time?"
Jiang Jing picked up his toothbrush cup and said as he walked out, "What time is it? If we don't get to the cafeteria early, all the good food will be gone. Are you really going to be able to stomach what's left?"
The person who had just called him Brother Jing was his good buddy, Liu Bin. They were neighbors who lived in the same building in the same residential complex and had known each other for over a decade.
Just then, a chubby student wearing glasses and sporting a bowl cut, who looked honest and sturdy, climbed down from his bed. This was Guo Yong.
He was one of the top three students in the class, and his dream was exceptionally simple and plain: he just wanted to become a civil servant.
Then there was Li Peng, who was tall and thin like a bamboo pole and was still sleeping.
Finally, there was Wang Zhiyi, who was short and had a very comical appearance, with a prominent black mole on his chin.
Chen Ze had a square face dotted with a few pimples.
These were the six people in Room 404, the same roommates he had lived with for three years in his past life.
But the world had undergone a massive change, and he had no idea if things would remain the same in the future.
Just then, a figure darted out from the bed nearby; it was a blue-and-white creature with a large tail that resembled a squirrel.
That was right, it was the Electric-type Pokémon Pachirisu, which hopped onto the desk in search of something, likely because it was hungry.
Jiang Jing set down his toothbrush, put on his clothes and school uniform, then picked up Pachirisu and began petting it.
It felt warm and smooth, incredibly comfortable to touch, and Pachirisu let out a contented cry.
This was Chen Ze's Pokémon, as he had no intention of becoming a trainer and instead wanted to start a business to make money and become a boss.
He had held the same dream in his past life, having only scored well enough on the National College Entrance Examination to get into Tiancheng College, and he was still working hard toward his entrepreneurial goals before Jiang Jing had transmigrated.
As for Pachirisu, it was his pet; even if he didn't plan on being a trainer, he still chose to keep one or two pets.
Pachirisu was the first Pokémon Jiang Jing had seen after transmigrating, and for the past three months, he had made it a habit to pet it every day, or else he wouldn't feel right.
It had reached the point where he acted more like Pachirisu's owner than Chen Ze did.
Once everyone had finished washing up, the six of them shouldered their backpacks and headed out.
After several months, the new textbooks had finally arrived.
