The cameraman had grown impatient waiting by the door and called out, "Are you done talking? It's getting late. Save whatever you have to say for next time."

He Mei stuck out her tongue and waved goodbye to Huo Baichuan and Tao Yan. "I'll be going, then. See you next time."

Huo Baichuan and Tao Yan escorted her all the way out of the orphanage.

The moon hung high overhead, and the night breeze carried a faint chill. Huo Baichuan glanced at one of the dorm rooms that still had its lights on, then turned to Tao Yan. "Do you think Xinbao should go back with his parents?"

"They're his parents," Tao Yan said. "Only he can make that decision."

Huo Baichuan sighed. "I'm worried..."

He did not say what he was worried about, but Tao Yan clearly understood.

Tao Yan said nothing.

Huo Baichuan sighed again and pulled Tao Yan toward the children's dormitory on the third floor.

In the brightly lit dorm room, the four disabled children were huddled together on one bed. The other children from the orphanage surrounded the bed, chattering away.

"Xinbao, your parents came looking for you. Why aren't you happy?"

"Your dad is so tall, and your mom is so pretty."

"Are you going to leave with them?"
