Wenren Yan smiled. "I brought you out, so of course I thought everything through."
Ao Qingyuan's eyes lit up. "Where are we going?"
Wenren Yan merely smiled without answering. The two took the elevator straight down to the underground parking garage, and Wenren Yan drove Ao Qingyuan to a privately owned equestrian club a hundred kilometers away.
"This place looks nice! Why is there no one here?" Ao Qingyuan looked around the club, somewhat puzzled.
"Bad business." Wenren Yan offered a bland explanation. They then ran into his childhood friend, who had personally come out to receive the distinguished guests. His friend wore an utterly speechless expression.
"Want to ride?" Ling Ao greeted them.
Wenren Yan turned to look at Ao Qingyuan. Ao Qingyuan nodded. Because he wanted to take on historical dramas, he had specifically learned horseback riding and archery. Unfortunately, Immortal-Demon Duel was a xianxia drama; every character either walked or flew on swords when they went out. The equestrian skills he had worked so hard to learn had turned out to be completely useless.
Ling Ao glanced at the big star and introduced himself proactively. "My name is Ling Ao. I'm the owner of this club, and also Ah Yan's friend. I'm third among my siblings. People who know me call me Ling San'er."
Ao Qingyuan said, "I'm Ao Qingyuan."
Ling Ao smiled. "I know. You're a big star—who wouldn't recognize you?"
Wenren Yan gave Ling Ao a cool look. Ling Ao immediately raised his brows knowingly. "Well then, you two have fun. Just call someone if you need anything."
Watching Ling Ao's listless retreating figure, Ao Qingyuan said with a smile, "Your friend is interesting."
Wenren Yan replied, "He's definitely nosy."
As he spoke, Wenren Yan led Ao Qingyuan to choose a horse.
Ling Ao was the type of player who solved everything with money. He might not have been particularly knowledgeable about raising horses, but he had money. And money could hire experts. With a good judge of horses, good horses could be found. Thus, the horses at the club were all exceptionally handsome, whether in pedigree or appearance. There were even several racehorses that others had specially boarded here.
Ao Qingyuan could hardly bear to put them down. He stroked one horse and hugged another, feeling that every single one was wonderful.
Wenren Yan gestured for a staff member to bring carrots and apples so Ao Qingyuan could feed the horses first.
Ao Qingyuan took an apple and enthusiastically fed several horses, determined to treat them all equally. Then he turned back to Wenren Yan, who had been standing to the side with a smile since the beginning. "Why aren't you feeding them? It's really fun."
Wenren Yan smiled. "I keep a horse. It gets very jealous. If it finds out I fed other horses outside, it'll get angry."
Ao Qingyuan hugged the basket and shifted farther away. "Then you'd better not feed them."
After getting familiar with the horses, Ao Qingyuan chose a chestnut racehorse with a tuft of white hair in the middle of its forehead. The two rode several laps around the track. Then Wenren Yan asked, "Do you want to scoop fish?"
Ao Qingyuan shook his head, politely declining. "I don't have the patience to sit there and fish."
Wenren Yan corrected him, "Scoop fish, not fish."
Ao Qingyuan: "?"
Wenren Yan took the curious Ao Qingyuan to the changing room to change clothes. Then, led by a staff member, they arrived at the fish pond—the pond was not large, only about the size of a basketball court, and it was divided into countless grid-like sections. Each small compartment held dozens of edible fish of different species. The staff member handed Ao Qingyuan and Wenren Yan each an oversized paper scoop for catching goldfish.
Ao Qingyuan: "..."
Ao Qingyuan stared blankly at the tool in his hand, his eyes widening in disbelief. "We really are scooping fish!"
Still, this kind of fish-scooping game... who knew whose idea it had been.
Wenren Yan smiled as he explained, "You have to jump in and scoop them however you like. Whatever you catch is what we'll eat tonight."
Ao Qingyuan blinked. That worked too?
Seeing Ao Qingyuan looking eager yet hesitant, Wenren Yan curled his lips and jumped in first. With quick eyes and deft hands, he expertly scooped up a catfish and tossed it ashore. A staff member brought over a bucket and put the catfish inside. Wenren Yan said with a smile, "We've got the first dish. Do you like fish noodles? We can have the chef make fish noodles with this one."
Ao Qingyuan nodded, his eyes sparkling. He loved slurping noodles. "I want spicy fish noodles."
Wenren Yan smiled. "Then we'll make them spicy."
Ao Qingyuan said, "I also want fish balls. I want sweet-and-sour fish. I want boiled fish in chili oil. I want salt-and-pepper fried fish bones."
Wenren Yan beckoned to Ao Qingyuan and said generously, "Whatever you like, come down and scoop it yourself."
Ao Qingyuan smiled happily. With a splash, he jumped into the fish pond. The spray startled the fish in the water, sending them leaping nonstop. Ao Qingyuan failed to catch anything on his first try and instead tore his paper net. He simply tossed the broken paper net aside and bent over seriously to catch fish.
Wenren Yan stood to the side, watching the soaked young man splash about in the fish pond by himself. The close-fitting fishing suit outlined the boy's broad shoulders, narrow waist, and the faint contours of his abs. Wenren Yan blinked, looked away, and casually scooped up another crucian carp, tossing it ashore.
After splashing around for ages without catching a single fish, Ao Qingyuan looked over with envy, his eyes sparkling as he said, "You're amazing."
Wenren Yan coughed lightly and said calmly, "There are tricks to scooping fish too. I'll teach you."
With that, Wenren Yan walked toward Ao Qingyuan.
