Ancient Texts (Revised)

Outside the Pope's Palace of Spirit Hall, the carriage gradually came to a stop. Bibi Dong led Jun Xuehan and Hu Liena out of the carriage.

Jun Xuehan looked toward the Pope's Palace. The palace before him felt magnificent, grand, and imposing. The angel statue at its very top in particular gave off an illusion of nobility, holiness, and purity.

Temple Knights clad in silver armor, their faces concealed from view, stood on either side of the entrance to the Pope's Palace.

Upon entering the Pope's Palace, Jun Xuehan found that its decorations were not lavish or resplendent, but rather antique and elegant. Though it lacked some extravagance, it did not lose any of its grandeur or majesty.

Bibi Dong did not linger in the Pope's Palace. Instead, she led Jun Xuehan and Hu Liena into the rear hall, which was normally where His Holiness the Pope resided. Ordinary people were generally unable to enter.

The moment they entered the rear hall, a beautiful and tranquil setting greeted their eyes. A glance around revealed pavilions, towers, small bridges, and flowing streams throughout the entire rear hall. Even the plants on either side emitted a faint fragrance.

"Xuehan, I'll have someone prepare a room for you in the rear hall later. You'll live here from now on. You don't have classes today, so you can rest properly. I still have Government Affairs to handle. Liena, take Xuehan around the rear hall and explain things to him," Bibi Dong said softly before heading toward the study.

The study was where Bibi Dong handled Government Affairs on a daily basis. After all, such a vast Spirit Hall had quite a great deal of Government Affairs to deal with every day.

"Alright, Teacher," Hu Liena agreed, then led Jun Xuehan around the rear hall to familiarize him with the surroundings.

As they walked, Hu Liena said, "Junior Brother, aside from Teacher and us, only the maids responsible for daily living reside in the rear hall. Meal times are seven in the morning, twelve at noon, and six in the evening. We eat in the pavilion ahead."

"After breakfast and lunch, Teacher spends an hour and a half teaching us knowledge and guiding our cultivation. We arrange the rest of our time ourselves. Whether we cultivate or rest is up to us, but Teacher checks on our cultivation progress every week to keep us from becoming too lax and neglecting cultivation."

"Next to our rear hall is the Worship Hall, but you don't need to concern yourself with them. The Worship Elders basically do not involve themselves in affairs these days, and under normal circumstances, they do not leave the Worship Hall. Beside the Worship Hall is Spirit Hall's Library Pavilion. Everything stored there consists of Ancient Texts. They must not be damaged or lost. If you want to enter the Library Pavilion to borrow Ancient Texts, you need either Teacher's written authorization or the Great Worship Elder's written authorization. Otherwise, you cannot get in."

Hu Liena explained the matters of the rear hall in detail, while Jun Xuehan committed everything she said to memory.

After taking a full tour of the rear hall, Jun Xuehan looked at Hu Liena and said, "Senior Sister, let's go find Teacher. I want to enter the Library Pavilion and take a look at the Ancient Texts you mentioned."

Hearing this, Hu Liena nodded gently. "Teacher is in the study. We can just go find her. But those Ancient Texts are all quite boring. They record things that happened a very long time ago and aren't much help for cultivation."

Jun Xuehan said indifferently, "Mm. I just want to go in and have a look."

The two arrived outside the study and pushed the door open. After explaining Jun Xuehan's wish to enter the Library Pavilion, they stood respectfully before Bibi Dong.

"The Ancient Texts in the Library Pavilion may not be of much use for cultivation, but they are still quite useful for theory and knowledge in various other fields. There are only benefits, no drawbacks, to taking a look," Bibi Dong said softly as she took out a token and handed it to Jun Xuehan.

"Thank you, Teacher!" Jun Xuehan thanked her, then turned and left the study, heading directly for the Library Pavilion.

Hu Liena watched his departing figure. After thinking for a moment, she did not follow him, instead asking Bibi Dong about several matters related to cultivation.

Using the token, Jun Xuehan entered the Library Pavilion.

The Library Pavilion had three floors. Each floor held an enormous bookshelf, and Ancient Texts were neatly arranged on every shelf.

The books on the third floor were the oldest, while those on the floors below were somewhat more recent. Among them, the oldest book recorded events written down by the founder of Spirit Hall ten thousand years ago.

Jun Xuehan picked up that book, found a place at random, and began reading it carefully. The first part detailed how Spirit Hall's founder suppressed Evil Soul Masters and became a God-level Expert, while the latter part recorded events that occurred on the continent after he became a god.

After finishing the entire book, Jun Xuehan returned it to its original place and began searching the Library Pavilion for texts that interested him more.

There were many kinds of books throughout the Library Pavilion. Some contained insights on Self-Created Soul Skills, some recorded all kinds of soul beasts, some documented Rare Treasures and Exotic Herbs, and some recounted the deeds of people who had contributed to the continent.

After selecting several books on insights into Self-Created Soul Skills and Rare Treasures and Exotic Herbs, Jun Xuehan found a place at random and began reading.

Both types of books were helpful to him. The insights on Self-Created Soul Skills could help him create Soul Skills more easily, while the texts on Rare Treasures and Exotic Herbs were meant to help him search for records concerning Immortal Grass.

He knew that Immortal Grass grew within the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, but merely knowing that was useless. Picking Immortal Grass required special techniques, so he wanted to see whether the texts in the Library Pavilion contained any records about them.

Heaven did not disappoint those who persevered. After four hours of searching and reading, Jun Xuehan found records concerning Immortal Grass in one text. It not only documented the Immortal Grass itself, but also methods for harvesting it and other related information. The records were exceptionally comprehensive.

Jun Xuehan read the descriptions of the Immortal Grass's appearance and the harvesting methods with particular care.

After all, absorbing Immortal Grass could rapidly increase Soul Power within a short time and had no Side Effects whatsoever. With something this good available, Jun Xuehan naturally had no intention of letting it go.

As for whose opportunity it was supposed to be, that was not important at all. Opportunities were first come, first served. Whoever seized one owned it.

If you arrived too late, that could only prove that you were not fated for it.

After carefully finishing the text concerning Immortal Grass, Jun Xuehan read it twice more. Not for any other reason, but simply so he could remember it more firmly and accurately.
