"Moo!" Black Bull called out to Chen Xun.
"Coming."
Chen Xun turned around, and his eyes lit up when he saw the silver. A wealthy customer had arrived. He smiled at Senior Brother Yu. "Young master, my old bull has never seen silver before. Please don't mind him."
"No matter."
Senior Brother Yu blinked, accepting the broken silver, though he still looked somewhat dazed.
He stood outside the crowd while his junior brothers and sisters went to eat. Frowning slightly, he looked toward Black Bull, a gleam flashing through his eyes.
"A mortal body. Nothing wrong with it."
Senior Brother Yu murmured, then looked at the stall owner. "Also a mortal body. Looks like I was overthinking it."
Chen Xun's hand paused slightly as he stir-fried the rice. He sensed someone probing him; even the spiritual power within him stirred, only to be concealed by the Essence of All Things.
"There's a cultivator."
Chen Xun continued preparing food with his usual carefree manner, though inwardly he had become vigilant. Raising his head, he called out with a smile, "Fresh from the wok!" and swept his gaze over the people around him.
"That little girl called him Senior Brother Yu. This group is very likely cultivators. Don't provoke them."
Chen Xun thought silently, his hands never slowing as he greeted everyone with a smiling face.
Near midnight, the nearby townsfolk had gradually returned home, and few pedestrians remained on the streets. Chen Xun was also preparing to close his stall.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we need to close up and sleep too. How about you stop eating..."
Chen Xun said in shock. This group had actually sat here eating all night. The ingredients he had prepared were nearly gone, though he had certainly made plenty of money.
Junior Sister Ye gave a haughty snort. "Boss, keep cooking. We have plenty of silver."
"Boss, your food really is quite good."
Senior Brother Yu suddenly remarked. Seeing how highly his junior brothers and sisters praised it, he had given it a try himself. Now he found it hard to stop.
"Yeah, Boss, it's not like we aren't paying." The others all chimed in, their eyes full of admiration.
"There are no ingredients left, everyone..."
Chen Xun's pupils widened slightly. Could cultivators really eat this much? Mainly, though, it was because his seasonings contained precious medicinal herbs they had grown. Ordinary people simply could not afford such things.
"Then, Boss, are you here every night?" Junior Sister Ye asked with a delighted smile. "I haven't eaten anything this delicious in ages."
"Not necessarily. My stall moves around."
"Moves around?"
"It means going wherever the winds take us. We set up wherever we feel like."
Chen Xun explained. Staying in one place for too long was not ideal.
"How about coming to our sect as a cook?"
"Qingling!"
Senior Brother Yu shouted coldly. "It's time to leave. Say one more word, and I'll send you back."
Junior Sister Ye's hairs stood on end. The surrounding junior brothers and sisters also stiffened. Senior Brother Yu was angry.
"Take care, everyone."
Chen Xun smiled and cupped his hands. At last, he had sent those great Buddhas away. He let out a small breath of relief. "Old Bull, let's go."
"Moo!"
Black Bull ran out of the little house. Together, they began pushing it, effortlessly finding an empty patch of grass where they stopped.
"Old Bull, how much did we make today?"
Chen Xun wiped away his sweat and grinned. "You worked hard."
"Moo moo~~" Black Bull rubbed against Chen Xun, telling him not to stand on ceremony.
"Let's save up more money. Everything we earned these past years was spent arranging funerals for our friends."
"Moo."
Black Bull nodded. Their current life was good enough. They did not need to socialize or meet anyone, or before long, those people would disappear too.
It actually had many friends. The neighbors often came to chat with it, pouring out their thoughts and troubles.
The neighbors thought Black Bull could not understand them, but it could. It believed they were treating it sincerely, and besides, it liked listening to stories.
"Old Bull."
Chen Xun suddenly smacked the bull's head. Black Bull cried out in pain, "Moo moo!" and looked at Chen Xun with confused eyes.
"Cheer up already! What, are you pretending to be deep?"
Chen Xun feigned anger. He had rarely seen Old Bull smile this past month. "Why can't you get over it?"
"Moo~~"
Black Bull called softly, lying in the little house and licking its hoof, sorrow in its eyes. It had yet to recover.
"Everything we've done is Merit. Recite it silently in your heart and give that Merit to our friends. In their next lives, they'll definitely be wealthy households, living good days every day."
Chen Xun said irritably, bringing out his trump card. "Heaven and the Buddha will bless them."
"Moo?"
A bright gleam burst into Black Bull's eyes. Mentioning Merit immediately got it fired up. It firmly believed in Merit. "Moo moo moo?"
"Really! I already gave mine away. Otherwise, do you think I'd be acting like you?"
Chen Xun said solemnly, speaking with absolute conviction.
"Moo moo moo moo~~" Black Bull immediately sat cross-legged, mooing endlessly, though no one knew what it was muttering.
Chen Xun shook his head with a smile and sighed faintly. His state of mind was gradually changing. This wandering little house was already the first step he had taken.
The longer they stayed in one place, the more ties they seemed to form. They were not heartless people, after all; the Mortal Realm was ultimately not suited for them.
"Moo!"
"Finished?"
"Moo~"
Black Bull pressed itself against Chen Xun and grinned. It had given all its Merit to its friends, so now it had to start accumulating it again.
"Hahaha..."
Chen Xun patted Black Bull with feeling. Leaning against each other, they gradually fell asleep.
In the days that followed, they went wherever the winds took them around Panning City, wandering and sightseeing everywhere. At night, they made snacks to sell; during the day, they went shopping for supplies together, buying whatever they liked.
A year later, Chen Xun's wandering little house had truly made quite a name for itself in Panning City. Many came specifically for it, all giving a thumbs-up. Delicious!
Finally, on a bright sunny morning, while they were out buying supplies, their wandering little house was stolen...
Chen Xun was carrying two sacks of meat when he saw the empty patch of grass. The sacks slowly slipped from his shoulders, crashing heavily onto the ground—and into their hearts.
"Where's our house?!!"
"Moo moo? Moo!!"
Black Bull cried out anxiously, running all over the grass, yet it could not find their house anywhere.
Man and bull dropped to their knees before the grass, their eyes hollow, utterly bereft. Their home was gone again...
"Damn it! Damn it all!"
Chen Xun's face twisted with fury, veins bulging on his forehead. "How could anyone steal such a huge house?!"
Black Bull trembled with rage, repeatedly snorting at the ground until turf flew everywhere. Too hateful—hateful beyond measure!
"A gang. It was definitely a large gang operation!"
Spittle flew from Chen Xun's mouth as he stared at the tracks across the grass. "Damn it, today we're going on a killing spree! Our pots, bowls, and utensils are all inside! They've been with us for so many years!"
"Moo~~!!!"
Black Bull rose to its feet, the muscles all over its body swelling as it stared in the direction of the wheel tracks. The house could not have been pushed very quickly; even they needed to exert considerable effort to move it.
Chen Xun pulled out the long-unused bandit face covering from his clothes, unfastened his collar to reveal sixteen sculpted abdominal muscles, then slowly drew two Mountain-Splitting Axes from his waist. Black Bull silently stood at his side.
Their gazes fixed on the same direction. Chen Xun's chest heaved. "Old Bull, chase them!"
"Moo!!"
Two figures transformed into twin hurricanes, their eyes bloodshot as they charged after the thieves in a mad pursuit. If they did not kill until the heavens overturned and the sun and moon lost their light today, no one was leaving!
All home invaders must die!
Across the grass, across the bridge—they saw it. They saw their little house. Chen Xun let out a furious roar and leaped into the air, soaring high and far.
Bang!
Chen Xun landed firmly atop the wandering little house, his bearing peerless as he said coldly, "In broad daylight, beneath the clear heavens, what do you think you're doing?!"
He slowly turned around and looked down. His pupils contracted. Why were they all government soldiers?
"We're innocent!!"
"Moo moo!"
Chen Xun and Black Bull were thrown into prison again. The reason was that his stall was too enormous, taking up places that many ordinary people had originally occupied. Others needed to make a living too, and there were only so many spots in bustling areas.
Countless vendors had reported them to the authorities, saying Chen Xun's little house was truly against the rules. How were they supposed to survive like this?
Ten days later, Chen Xun and Black Bull trudged out of prison in sorry shape. Prison life was no life for a man or beast. They raised their heads to the sky and smiled. Freedom was wonderful.
The authorities were reasonable, however. They returned their pots, bowls, and utensils, but the little house had to be dismantled, and they were told never to pull such a thing again.
Chen Xun was deeply grateful, weeping tears of gratitude as he loudly praised the Azure Heaven Grand Lord and promised never again to affect others. This matter had been their fault.
