He Seemed Stronger
East Tenth District bordered East Twenty-Seventh District.
Many areas of the Lower District had collapsed before. The poor, corrupt Lower District government had lacked the money to maintain the underground pillars corroded by water, resulting in total collapse.
Once things stabilized, the Central District would send a few disaster prevention personnel to take a look, claim that they had rescued a cat or dog, invite reporters to write a few articles, and then leave.
After all, iron men were not people. The cost of digging them out was higher than they themselves were worth, so why waste time rescuing them?
The buried iron men would remain in the lightless underground for decades. Once the soil hardened, they might be dug up again, only to be saddled with a belated rescue bill that made their already impoverished lives even worse.
Some iron men would discover that although they had been buried, their loans kept accumulating. The six percent annual interest rate would make them burst into tears on the spot, sending them down an endless road of repayment.
Every newly built district received a new district number. Thus, District Twenty-Seventh was a very young district, and the iron men and humans here were more spirited as well.
But today, the atmosphere here was exceptionally solemn.
The entirety of District Twenty-Seventh had entered a state of alert. Its district chief deployed the weapons and equipment she had painstakingly borrowed, then prayed that the terrifying Demon King Chen Yu would not come.
But behind her stood the elevator leading to the Central District. The Cultivator Management Committee of the Central District had issued a death order, leaving her no room to retreat.
Moreover, unlike the other districts, whose district chiefs were all iron men, District Twenty-Seventh's district chief was human.
