Star Lords represent the collective will and understanding of living beings. Their manifestations, abilities, and even gender can shift as societies, productive forces, and social relationships change. 84

Every Star Lord possesses multiple personalities: concepts and values from earlier eras remain within them as dormant currents of thought, continually attempting to return the Star Lord to a past form. These lingering impulses are described as a Star Lord's desires. 84 476

Several methods by which Star Lords may arise have been described:

• Investiture by immortals — Immortals with immense power may appoint a Star Lord through a legendary act of investiture. 256
• Revival — A Star Lord that perished in the past may return and become active again. 256
• Natural formation — The Heavenly Dao may create a Star Lord when a new authority requires governance. 256
• Fusion with an Outer God — An Outer God may merge with the local Heavenly Dao and become a Star Lord of the Great Qian World. 256

Each Star Lord possesses a collection of Traits, which together define its authority and nature. Traits are compared to colors on a palette; their proportions combine into the complete Star Lord. 292 583

Dao Resonance

A Star Lord's true form cannot safely appear before ordinary cultivators because its Dao Resonance is overwhelmingly potent. Direct exposure can shatter a cultivator's Dao Heart, erase their consciousness, or reduce them to a being that can only praise the Star Lord. 150
