Nature and Origins

Star Lords represent the collective will and understanding of living beings. Their manifestations, abilities, and even gender can shift as societies, productive forces, and social relationships change. 84

Every Star Lord possesses multiple personalities: concepts and values from earlier eras remain within them as dormant currents of thought, continually attempting to return the Star Lord to a past form. These lingering impulses are described as a Star Lord's desires. 84 476

When a Star Lord falls, its positive aspects may be absorbed by heaven and earth while its negative aspects and former desires remain. These remnants can attempt to transform the surrounding world into the Star Lord's former ideal state. 476

Several methods by which Star Lords may arise have been described:

• Investiture by immortals — Immortals with immense power may appoint a Star Lord through a legendary act of investiture. 256
• Revival — A Star Lord that perished in the past may return and become active again. 256
• Natural formation — The Heavenly Dao may create a Star Lord when a new authority requires governance. 256
• Fusion with an Outer God — An Outer God may merge with the local Heavenly Dao and become a Star Lord of the Great Qian World. 256
• Union of man and god — An extraordinary human who achieves great contributions may receive a Star Lord's divine office after death rather than entering reincarnation. 256
• Heavenly Dao reward — The Heavenly Dao may bestow Star Lord godhood as a reward upon a cultivator who fulfills certain conditions. 1147
• Formation through belief and imitation — If enough people accept an imitation of a person or quality, the imitation can gradually become real and form a false Star Lord. 804

The continued existence of Star Lords is an extremely sensitive subject. Star Lords can die, but inquiries into the conditions of their death provoke overwhelming danger. 256

Star Lords may also arise through unusual posthumous transformations. Venerable Shituo formed when the remains and Buddhist principles of a married pair of cultivators merged after death and received vast incense offerings. 553

Each Star Lord possesses a collection of Traits, which together define its authority and nature. Traits are compared to colors on a palette; their proportions combine into the complete Star Lord. 292 583

The Past, Present, and Future Star Lords are a superior temporal grouping, with strength described as roughly equivalent to the Deity Transformation stage. Ascension into Dao Integration was described as lying beyond them. 355 585

Faith is an emotional exchange between worshippers and Star Lords. Belief can strengthen a Star Lord, grant blessings, and even allow an imitation of a Star Lord to become real if enough people accept it. 618 804

Dao Resonance

A Star Lord's true form cannot safely appear before ordinary cultivators because its Dao Resonance is overwhelmingly potent. Direct exposure can shatter a cultivator's Dao Heart, erase their consciousness, or reduce them to a being that can only praise the Star Lord. 150

Even a partial manifestation can induce intense devotion. When Fire Virtue Star Lord appeared above Moral High School, Xu Zilong became desperate to donate all of his money—and even borrow more—to serve it. 96

Temple Attendants and Incarnations

Star Lord decrees are commonly delivered through temple attendants. Attendants must cover themselves with green paper to resist contamination from the Star Lord's Dao Resonance, and powerful Star Lords may require multiple attendants rotating shifts. 150

Incarnations are parts of their originating Star Lord and may live among mortals, form families, and produce exceptionally talented descendants. Some descendants can serve as contingencies for a Star Lord's revival. 618

When a Star Lord's authority is divided, the resulting power can create an entirely new Star Lord.
