Background / History
Yuji’s parents disappeared long before the current events, leaving his grandfather, Wasuke Itadori, as his only family. Despite this upbringing, Yuji was raised to be openhearted and upright rather than embittered. He later states that he no longer cares about learning about his parents, believing that having his grandfather is enough family. 38 69
Wasuke is terminally ill and has spent years undergoing examinations with Yuji at hospitals across Japan. Yuji respects his grandfather’s wish to stop painful treatment if it proves ineffective, even though he does not want to lose him. Before Yuji leaves the hospital room, Wasuke tells him to help others and to “die surrounded by everyone.” 67 69
Kenjaku is implied to have engineered Yuji as an abnormal human vessel. Though Yuji has some cursed-energy manifestation, he possesses no innate cursed technique; his exceptional body and future capacity to acquire techniques are attributed to Kenjaku’s modifications. 32 70
