Background

Chen Xi began as a palace maid serving Xue Qinghe. He did not know his parents, and even questioned whether his soul was original; consequently, the martial soul he would awaken was unknown to him. Xue Qinghe personally brought him to awaken it. 1

His martial soul manifested as the Pen of Destiny, an unusual mental-type martial soul described as capable of “peering into fate” and “writing the future.” After Chen Xi used it on Xue Qinghe, the result—“The dead cannot have their fate glimpsed”—exposed that the real crown prince was dead. Qian Renxue then revealed herself as Xue Qinghe’s replacement and recruited Chen Xi into Martial Soul Hall. 2 3

Qian Renxue arranged his education, resources, basic combat instruction, and Spirit Ring acquisition through She Long. Chen Xi later entered Martial Soul Hall’s Training Camp, where Azure Luan offered to accept him as a disciple if he ranked in the top ten. He ultimately became Qing Luan’s disciple. 4 21 35
