Ch. 101Taking Tang San in Hand

Chapter Summary: “Taking Tang San in Hand”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun visit Xiao Wu’s dormitory, claiming they have come to explain Shrek Academy’s rules.
  • Dai Mubai presents several supposed regulations, but emphasizes that dating is forbidden and threatens consequences for students who violate the rule.
  • Xiao Wu quickly realizes that Dai Mubai is likely inventing or exaggerating the rules, especially because of his hostility and the absurdity of forbidding romantic relationships.
  • Although she had initially felt uneasy about her master’s order to drug Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun, their arrogant behavior removes her remaining guilt and convinces her that they deserve punishment.
  • Xiao Wu devises a plan based on her master’s lesson about “killing with a borrowed blade”: she will manipulate Tang San into confronting Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun on her behalf.
  • She creates the appearance of distress by scattering wet paper balls around the room, then spends the afternoon pretending to sleep while waiting for Tang San to notice something is wrong.
  • When Tang San comes to invite her to dinner, Xiao Wu deliberately sobs and presents herself as emotionally devastated.
  • Tang San forces open the door after hearing her crying and immediately becomes protective and enraged, promising to care for and defend her.
  • Xiao Wu refuses to explain what happened, telling him to leave so she can have peace. She expects Tang San to investigate independently and discover Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun’s visit, leading him to treat them as enemies.

Character Developments

  • Xiao Wu becomes increasingly calculating and manipulative. She uses her master’s advice to exploit Tang San’s affection while maintaining an innocent, vulnerable appearance.
  • Her moral hesitation about drugging Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun disappears after their bullying behavior, allowing her to justify her planned retaliation.
  • Tang San is shown as deeply devoted to Xiao Wu. His composure collapses as soon as he believes she is crying, and his protective instincts immediately turn toward revenge against whoever hurt her.
  • Dai Mubai displays arrogance and attempts to assert authority through fabricated or distorted school rules.
  • Ma Hongjun supports Dai Mubai during the intimidation, though he receives less individual focus.

Significant Themes

  • Manipulation through affection: Xiao Wu uses Tang San’s love and protectiveness to influence his actions without directly asking him to retaliate.
  • Appearance versus reality: Xiao Wu appears helpless and heartbroken, but she is secretly directing the entire situation.
  • Justice and revenge: Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun’s disrespect becomes the justification for Xiao Wu’s planned punishment.
  • Emotional control and indirect influence: The chapter emphasizes how people can be guided more effectively through suggestion and staged circumstances than through direct commands.
  • Loyalty and possessiveness: Tang San’s devotion is sincere but also fuels his fierce, potentially violent response to perceived threats against Xiao Wu.

Character Interactions

  • Dai Mubai attempts to dominate Xiao Wu through a fake lecture, but she outwardly submits while privately recognizing and exploiting his flaws.
  • Xiao Wu mentally contrasts Dai Mubai’s threats with Tang San’s affection, using Tang San’s loyalty as the weapon against Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun.
  • Tang San arrives expecting a pleasant dinner with Xiao Wu but instead finds her apparently distressed. His immediate concern and promises of lifelong protection reinforce how completely she can influence him.
  • Xiao Wu deliberately withholds the truth from Tang San, trusting that his concern will drive him to investigate and confront her enemies without her needing to accuse them directly.

Ch. 102Opportunity Arrives

Chapter Summary: “Opportunity Arrives”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Tang San learns that Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun may have mistreated Xiao Wu, leaving her deeply upset. He initially wants to confront them but realizes they are too powerful to defeat directly.
  • Instead, Tang San decides to investigate discreetly and conceal his anger behind a calm, friendly expression.
  • Xiao Wu continues attending classes but withdraws emotionally, avoiding Tang San’s attempts to comfort her and secretly preparing something in her room.
  • After several days of being ignored, Tang San becomes increasingly anxious and determines to discover what happened between Xiao Wu and the two men.
  • An opportunity arises when the academy’s water heater breaks. Xiao Wu asks Yu Xiaogang for permission to bathe in Suotuo City, and Tang San persuades Yu Xiaogang to approve her request.
  • While Xiao Wu is away, Tang San secretly enters her room using a spare key and searches for evidence. Although he finds nothing in the cabinets or beneath the bed, he eventually discovers Xiao Wu’s hidden diary.
  • The diary reveals that Xiao Wu disappeared from Nuoding Academy three years earlier to find medicinal herbs for Tang San after he had been seriously injured.
  • Tang San realizes that his injury was the reason Xiao Wu left and momentarily blames himself, but he quickly resumes reading.
  • The diary begins describing Xiao Wu’s encounter in Sunset Forest with the young man who had previously injured Tang San. Xiao Wu recognized him, while he did not recognize her, allowing her to approach him under false pretenses.

Character Developments

  • Tang San: Shows strong protective feelings toward Xiao Wu but also becomes suspicious, calculating, and willing to violate her privacy. His concern for her revenge leads him to break into her room and read her diary. He also discovers how deeply Xiao Wu had sacrificed for him.
  • Xiao Wu: Is emotionally wounded and distrustful of Tang San, refusing his attempts at reconciliation. Her diary reveals her loyalty and devotion, particularly her willingness to risk herself to obtain medicine for Tang San years earlier. Her secret preparations suggest she is planning something significant.
  • Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun: Are viewed by Tang San as possible aggressors against Xiao Wu. Their exact actions remain unclear, but Tang San considers them threats and begins planning to outmaneuver them.
  • Yu Xiaogang: Initially cautious about letting Xiao Wu leave the academy, but eventually grants permission after Tang San repeatedly advocates for her.

Significant Themes

  • Protectiveness and revenge: Tang San is driven by the desire to defend Xiao Wu and punish those who may have harmed her, though his emotions risk clouding his judgment.
  • Trust and betrayal: Xiao Wu’s withdrawal shows that her trust in Tang San has been damaged, while Tang San’s secret entry into her room further violates that trust.
  • Sacrifice and devotion: The diary reveals Xiao Wu’s past sacrifice for Tang San, emphasizing the depth of their bond despite their current estrangement.
  • Privacy versus concern: Tang San justifies invading Xiao Wu’s personal space because he believes he is helping her, raising questions about whether good intentions excuse unethical actions.
  • Hidden motives and identity: Xiao Wu’s diary introduces her strategic encounter with Tang San’s enemy, suggesting that deception and concealed identities will shape the coming events.

Character Interactions

  • Tang San carefully observes Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun while hiding his hostility.
  • Xiao Wu ignores Tang San’s efforts to speak with and comfort her.
  • Tang San persuades Yu Xiaogang to let Xiao Wu leave the academy.
  • Tang San secretly searches Xiao Wu’s room and reads her diary, uncovering information about her disappearance and her encounter with his enemy.

Ch. 103Xiao Wu's Diary

Chapter Summary

Plot Points and Events

  • Tang San reads Xiao Wu’s diary, initially amused by her account of tricking a “bad guy” into helping gather medicinal herbs intended to heal Tang San’s injuries.
  • The diary reveals that Xiao Wu was abducted by a Spirit Hall expert after leaving, had her Soul Power sealed, and was imprisoned for human experimentation.
  • Spirit Hall used captured people as test subjects for experimental pills that could drastically alter bodies, personalities, ages, and genders. Resistance was crushed when a rebellious prisoner was publicly executed.
  • After a test subject committed suicide because of an irreversible transformation, Spirit Hall began granting the prisoners limited wishes to prevent further suicides. This allowed Xiao Wu to obtain a diary and record her experiences.
  • Xiao Wu remained imprisoned for three years, growing increasingly desperate and believing she might never see Tang San again.
  • Her escape came when a pill furnace exploded and mysterious black-clad experts attacked the prison. During the ensuing battle, the cells were destroyed, allowing the prisoners to flee.
  • Many test subjects were killed by the guards before reaching freedom, but Xiao Wu escaped with a few others. She took several experimental pills, crossed a wasteland, and eventually reached Heaven Dou Empire territory.
  • After resting briefly, she hurried toward Notting City and Nuoding Academy, hoping Tang San was still waiting for her.

Character Developments

  • Tang San: His amusement turns to shock, rage, grief, and determination as he learns what Xiao Wu endured. He comes to regard Spirit Hall as his greatest enemy and vows that he will never find peace unless it is destroyed. His love and devotion to Xiao Wu are reinforced by his willingness to sacrifice himself for her.
  • Xiao Wu: The diary portrays her as playful and clever at first, but also courageous, traumatized, and resilient. Despite imprisonment, forced experimentation, and despair, she maintains enough hope to document her experiences and eventually escape.
  • Spirit Hall: It is revealed as cruel and exploitative, conducting involuntary human experiments and using violence, intimidation, and murder to control prisoners.
  • The imprisoned test subjects: Their collective resistance collapses under brutality, though their desperation and attempts to escape reveal their courage and desire for freedom.

Significant Themes

  • Cruelty and abuse of power: Spirit Hall’s experiments demonstrate the danger of institutions that treat human beings as disposable tools.
  • Endurance and hope: Xiao Wu survives years of imprisonment by recording her story and holding onto the possibility of reunion.
  • Freedom and sacrifice: The escape highlights how close freedom can be while showing the terrible price many prisoners pay for it.
  • Love and loyalty: Tang San’s emotional response emphasizes his deep bond with Xiao Wu and his readiness to sacrifice himself for her.
  • Justice and vengeance: Learning the truth transforms Tang San’s anger toward Spirit Hall into a personal determination to destroy it.

  • Spirit Hall’s guards and officials dominate the prisoners through experimentation, threats, executions, and violence.
  • The imprisoned subjects share a desperate bond, fleeing together when the prison is breached, though many are killed before escaping.
  • The black-clad rescuers attack Spirit Hall and indirectly create the opportunity for Xiao Wu’s escape.
  • Tang San’s interaction is primarily with Xiao Wu through her diary; his changing reactions reveal his love, grief, and growing hatred of Spirit Hall.

Ch. 104Hooked

Chapter Summary: “Hooked”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Tang San reads Xiao Wu’s diary, which recounts her return after three years of imprisonment by Spirit Hall.
  • Xiao Wu travels to Notting City, learns that Tang San has gone to Shrek Academy, and rushes to Suotuo City despite her exhaustion.
  • After finally meeting Tang San, she pretends to be angry and distant because he does not immediately come to see her. She plans to test whether his feelings and sincerity have changed.
  • While resting, Xiao Wu is confronted by Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun. They use their superior strength to intimidate her and impose restrictive “rules,” forbidding her from becoming close to any male student—including Tang San.
  • They threaten to monitor and punish both Xiao Wu and any man who approaches her. Unable to defeat them and unwilling to endanger Tang San, Xiao Wu submits and hides the incident.
  • Tang San later visits her and immediately senses that something is wrong. He offers to protect her and promises to settle the matter, but Xiao Wu refuses to burden him and sends him away without revealing the truth.
  • Afterward, Xiao Wu considers using unusual pills to take revenge. She imagines transforming Dai Mubai into a woman and exposing him to Ma Hongjun’s lecherous behavior, but ultimately decides the plan is too risky and postpones it.
  • Enraged by the diary, Tang San vows that he and Dai Mubai will remain mortal enemies until one of them dies.

Character Developments

  • Xiao Wu: Her diary reveals both her emotional vulnerability and her resilience. Although traumatized by imprisonment and frightened by Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun’s threats, she refuses to appear weak before Tang San or make him fight an enemy stronger than him. At the same time, her old mischievous and vengeful personality resurfaces as she considers elaborate retaliation.
  • Tang San: He becomes furious upon learning that Xiao Wu was bullied and that she deliberately concealed her suffering. His protective feelings intensify into a serious hatred of Dai Mubai, leading him to swear revenge.
  • Dai Mubai: He is portrayed as domineering and abusive, using his higher Soul Power to enforce control over Xiao Wu and assert authority.
  • Ma Hongjun: He participates in intimidating Xiao Wu and is characterized as lecherous, making him a willing accomplice to Dai Mubai’s coercion.

Significant Themes

  • Protectiveness and sacrifice: Xiao Wu hides the truth to protect Tang San from an opponent he cannot yet defeat, while Tang San is determined to defend her once he learns what happened.
  • Abuse of power: Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun exploit their greater strength to impose unreasonable rules and threaten weaker students.
  • Hidden suffering: Xiao Wu masks her fear and humiliation, showing how trauma can remain concealed even from those closest to someone.
  • Revenge versus restraint: Both Xiao Wu and Tang San struggle with anger. Xiao Wu delays a dangerous revenge scheme, while Tang San’s outrage pushes him toward a life-or-death conflict.
  • Trust and emotional distance: Xiao Wu wants Tang San’s care but keeps him at a distance to avoid burdening him, creating a painful gap between them.

Character Interactions

  • Xiao Wu and Tang San: Their reunion is emotionally complicated. Xiao Wu initially acts cold, but Tang San quickly recognizes her distress and offers unconditional support. She rejects his help despite trusting him deeply.
  • Xiao Wu, Dai Mubai, and Ma Hongjun: The two men use threats and intimidation to control her, establishing a hostile relationship and revealing their abuse of authority.
  • Tang San and Dai Mubai: Although Tang San was already angered by Dai Mubai’s earlier provocation, learning about Xiao Wu’s mistreatment transforms their rivalry into a personal vendetta.

Ch. 105Preparing to Act

Chapter Summary: “Preparing to Act”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • After reading Xiao Wu’s diary and revenge plan, Tang San decides to carry it out despite thinking her method is somewhat lenient.
  • He concludes that directly defeating Dai Mubai could take at least three years, so he chooses a short-term strategy instead of waiting for greater strength.
  • Tang San searches Xiao Wu’s room and discovers three bottles of pills hidden beneath the floorboards. He takes them and leaves the note, “May all your wishes come true.”
  • He encounters Yu Xiaogang, who unknowingly gives him the perfect opportunity: the students are about to use the bathhouse, and Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun have not yet entered.
  • Tang San goes to the bathhouse, studies its layout, and makes preparations before leaving calmly.
  • Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun then enter together, unaware that Tang San is secretly watching them through a window.
  • Their conversation reveals that Dai Mubai had threatened Xiao Wu hoping she would complain to Tang San and provoke a confrontation. They mock Tang San as a coward for apparently not retaliating.

Character Developments

  • Tang San: Becomes more calculating and proactive. Rather than relying solely on cultivation to surpass Dai Mubai, he embraces Xiao Wu’s unconventional revenge plan and carefully prepares to act. His calm behavior conceals his anger and intentions.
  • Xiao Wu: Although absent, she drives the chapter’s action through the revenge plan and the hidden pills she obtained from Spirit Hall’s prison.
  • Dai Mubai: Is shown to be arrogant, vindictive, and eager to exploit his superior strength. He admits that his warning to Xiao Wu was partly intended to lure Tang San into a fight.
  • Ma Hongjun: Continues to encourage Dai Mubai’s arrogance, reinforcing his role as Dai Mubai’s crude and malicious companion.
  • Yu Xiaogang: Remains unaware of Tang San’s scheme and accidentally provides the information that allows Tang San to put it into motion.

Significant Themes

  • Revenge and justice: Tang San rejects the idea of waiting years for revenge, following the Tang Sect principle that grievances should be settled as soon as possible.
  • Strategy over strength: Since Tang San cannot yet defeat Dai Mubai physically, he turns to planning, deception, and indirect retaliation.
  • Arrogance and underestimation: Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun’s confidence blinds them to the danger Tang San represents, causing them to speak openly about their behavior.
  • Hidden intentions: Tang San appears calm and obedient while secretly setting a trap, emphasizing the contrast between outward behavior and private motives.
  • Moral ambiguity: The revenge plan involves drugging others, showing Tang San’s willingness to use questionable methods when conventional power is insufficient.

Character Interactions

  • Tang San and Yu Xiaogang: Yu Xiaogang offers ordinary advice about rest and bathing, unknowingly helping Tang San find the right moment to act.
  • Tang San, Dai Mubai, and Ma Hongjun: Tang San silently observes them while they remain unaware of his presence. Their earlier hostility toward him motivates his planned retaliation.
  • Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun: Their private conversation reveals their shared contempt for Tang San and Xiao Wu, as well as their desire to manipulate the situation into a fight. The chapter ends with them laughing at Tang San while he watches them from hiding.

Ch. 106Success

Chapter Summary: “Success”

Plot and events

Tang San secretly observes Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun discussing Xiao Wu and himself. Enraged by their behavior, he uses a Tang Sect hidden-weapon technique to force a gender-changing pill into Dai Mubai’s mouth, then feeds Ma Hongjun a White Bone Flesh-Regenerating Pill. He also breaks a bottle of aphrodisiac in the bathhouse, ensuring the two will suffer the consequences while avoiding direct involvement.
To create an alibi, Tang San immediately seeks out Yu Xiaogang and claims he wants extra cultivation guidance. Yu Xiaogang agrees, unintentionally providing Tang San with protection should Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun later search for the culprit.

Developments in the bathhouse

Both Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun initially panic, believing they have been poisoned. Ma Hongjun soon discovers that his previously nonfunctional sexual ability has returned, while Dai Mubai feels an enormous increase in Soul Power. Mistaking the pill’s effects for a heaven-sent opportunity, Dai Mubai absorbs the energy and rises from Soul Power Level 41 to Level 46 in only a few minutes.
However, Ma Hongjun notices that Dai Mubai has transformed into a beautiful woman and reacts with shock, fascination, and inappropriate amusement. Dai Mubai remains unaware of the change at the chapter’s end.

Character development

  • Tang San becomes increasingly ruthless and calculating. His anger toward Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun drives him to retaliate through elaborate psychological and physical humiliation rather than direct confrontation. He also demonstrates foresight by arranging an alibi and distancing himself from the incident.
  • Dai Mubai is portrayed as arrogant, aggressive, and self-centered, but his sudden power increase makes him even more convinced that he is specially favored by fate. His transformation has not yet registered with him.
  • Ma Hongjun shifts rapidly from fear of poisoning to delight at the restoration of his sexual function, then to astonishment and lecherous amusement upon seeing Dai Mubai’s female body.
  • Yu Xiaogang continues to trust and support Tang San as his favored disciple, unknowingly helping him evade suspicion.

Character interactions

Tang San silently targets both men while they are distracted. Dai Mubai responds violently when Ma Hongjun panics, kicking him away. Later, Dai Mubai proudly interprets their strange physical changes as a fortunate encounter, while Ma Hongjun stares at and comments on Dai Mubai’s transformed appearance.

Themes

The chapter emphasizes revenge, manipulation, and the consequences of degrading behavior. It contrasts Tang San’s cold strategic planning with Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun’s crude impulsiveness. It also uses dramatic irony: readers know Tang San engineered the incident, while the victims mistakenly believe their suffering and power increase are gifts from heaven.

Ch. 108Ghost Loli

Chapter Summary: “Ghost Loli”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Xiao Wu returns to Shrek Academy and hears Ma Hongjun begging Dai Mubai to stop beating him. Ma claims that the earlier incident was a misunderstanding and that he was controlled by a strange force.
  • Dai Mubai angrily pursues Ma Hongjun, while Dean Flender intervenes before the conflict becomes even more serious.
  • Xiao Wu realizes that Tang San likely followed the plan hidden in her diary and acted against Ma Hongjun and Dai Mubai. She privately hopes the two would injure each other badly, which would have fulfilled the master’s assignment to her.
  • Upon returning to her room, Xiao Wu notices that Tang San has searched several places: her wardrobe, bed, and a hidden compartment beneath the floor. The diary and medicinal pills hidden there are missing.
  • Concluding that Tang San read the diary and acted exactly as intended, Xiao Wu burns the diary to destroy the evidence linking her to the scheme.
  • In the Star Dou Forest, Jiang Xuan ensures the loyalty of the Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts Da Ming and Er Ming by placing restrictions powered by the Six-Ding Divine Flame inside their divine souls. Any rebellion would cause the flames to destroy them.
  • Jiang Xuan rewards Chrysanthemum Douluo Yue Guan and Ghost Douluo Gui Mei with Soul-Gathering Pills for their assistance.
  • Gui Mei consumes the pills, raising her cultivation from rank 95 to the peak of rank 96 and then to the early stage of rank 97. However, each pill causes a major transformation: she first becomes female and later turns into a small, black-aura “loli.”
  • Yue Guan jokes about Gui Mei’s new appearance, while Gui Mei demands the Origin-Restoring Pill that will reverse the side effects. She threatens to secretly turn Yue Guan back into a man if he refuses, frightening him into recognizing how dangerous her revenge could be.

Character Developments

  • Xiao Wu: Demonstrates strong manipulation and caution. She understands that Tang San has taken the bait, hides her involvement, and destroys the diary to eliminate evidence. Her willingness to let Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun harm each other also reveals her ruthless commitment to completing her assignment.
  • Tang San: Though he does not appear directly, his actions show that he was successfully influenced by Xiao Wu’s planted diary and acted on the information it contained.
  • Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun: Their conflict escalates into a physical confrontation, though Flender stops it before the situation becomes fatal.
  • Jiang Xuan: Shows absolute control over Da Ming and Er Ming through the divine-soul restrictions and continues consolidating his power by rewarding useful allies.
  • Gui Mei: Gains a substantial increase in strength, reaching rank 97, while enduring humiliating physical transformations. Her close bond with Yue Guan and sharp temper remain unchanged.
  • Yue Guan: Acts as Gui Mei’s teasing but loyal companion. Although he mocks her transformed appearance, he still intends to help restore her original body.

Significant Themes

  • Manipulation and deception: Xiao Wu’s planted diary successfully controls Tang San’s actions, while she carefully removes evidence of her involvement.
  • Power through coercion: Jiang Xuan maintains loyalty through fear and supernatural control rather than trust.
  • The cost of strength: Gui Mei’s increased cultivation comes with drastic bodily transformations, emphasizing that power often requires sacrifice.
  • Loyalty and companionship: Despite constant insults and threats, Yue Guan and Gui Mei display deep mutual trust and longstanding brotherly affection.
  • Humor amid danger: The serious conflicts and coercive power struggles are contrasted with the comic absurdity of Gui Mei becoming a “ghost loli.”

Important Character Interactions

  • Xiao Wu and Tang San: Their indirect interaction is based on psychological manipulation, with Xiao Wu guiding Tang San through the diary.
  • Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun: Their violent confrontation is interrupted by Flender, who demands an explanation.
  • Xiao Wu and Flender: Xiao Wu recognizes Flender’s intervention as an obstacle to her plan.
  • Jiang Xuan, Da Ming, and Er Ming: Jiang Xuan establishes a master-and-subordinate relationship through the threat of divine-soul destruction.
  • Yue Guan and Gui Mei: Their teasing, bickering, and threats reveal a close but chaotic friendship. Yue Guan mocks Gui Mei’s new appearance, while Gui Mei threatens to transform him in retaliation.

Ch. 109Hustling, Then Hustling Some More!

Chapter Summary: “Hustling, Then Hustling Some More!”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Yue Guan dramatically pretends to be sorrowful before giving Ghost Loli an Origin-Restoring Pill.
  • The pill rapidly restores Ghost Loli’s body, but only from a loli into a woman rather than back into a man.
  • Confused and angry, Ghost Loli demands an explanation from Jiang Xuan.
  • Jiang Xuan speculates that the numerous side effects accumulated from taking two Soul-Gathering Pills require another Origin-Restoring Pill to completely reverse.
  • Ghost Loli’s anger fades, and she politely asks for another pill, offering to help Jiang Xuan in return.
  • Jiang Xuan claims he lacks the necessary ingredients and cannot currently return to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. He explains that one ingredient loses its medicinal power within fifteen minutes of being picked, making it impossible for Ghost Loli and Yue Guan to gather it for him.
  • Yue Guan tries to comfort Ghost Loli by emphasizing her increased Soul Power and joking that they can now be “good sisters.” Ghost Loli reacts furiously to the humiliation, while Yue Guan continues teasing her.
  • Jiang Xuan urges the two former Spirit Hall Douluo to leave and wait until he can refine another pill.
  • Ghost Loli sees through Jiang Xuan’s evasive explanation and asks directly what he intends to do and how they can help.
  • Jiang Xuan reveals that he plans to oppose Bibi Dong, whom he blames for nearly killing him and causing his three-year unconscious state.
  • Yue Guan hesitates, noting that although they have left the Spirit Hall, Bibi Dong was once their superior.
  • Jiang Xuan immediately recognizes that they are willing to help only if properly compensated, joking that opposing Bibi Dong will “cost extra.”

Character Developments

  • Jiang Xuan becomes more openly manipulative and commercially minded. He uses the failed restoration as leverage to secure the cooperation of Ghost Loli and Yue Guan.
  • Ghost Loli shifts from anger and suspicion to cautious negotiation. She realizes Jiang Xuan is withholding information and demonstrates her intelligence by forcing him to state his true intentions.
  • Yue Guan remains playful and teasing, using humor to ease Ghost Loli’s frustration. His willingness to negotiate with Jiang Xuan suggests that his loyalty to the Spirit Hall has weakened considerably.
  • Ghost Loli and Yue Guan continue adapting to their transformed female bodies, though Ghost Loli is especially resentful of being treated like a “sister.”

Significant Themes

  • Manipulation and bargaining: Jiang Xuan turns a medical problem into an opportunity to recruit powerful allies.
  • Trust and hidden motives: Ghost Loli recognizes that Jiang Xuan’s explanation is only partially truthful, leading to a more direct conversation.
  • Loyalty versus revenge: Yue Guan and Ghost Loli must decide whether their former allegiance to Bibi Dong outweighs their changed circumstances and relationship with Jiang Xuan.
  • Humor amid humiliation: The characters use banter and teasing to cope with the absurdity of Ghost Loli and Yue Guan’s transformations.
  • Power and compensation: Even cooperation against a common enemy is presented as a transaction rather than an act of pure loyalty.

Character Interactions

  • Jiang Xuan and Ghost Loli: Their exchange moves from confrontation to negotiation. Jiang Xuan placates her with a plausible explanation, while Ghost Loli eventually forces him to reveal his larger plan.
  • Ghost Loli and Yue Guan: Yue Guan teases Ghost Loli about their shared transformation, while she threatens him for treating them as “good sisters.” Their hostility is playful but reflects Ghost Loli’s deep embarrassment.
  • Jiang Xuan and Yue Guan: Yue Guan acts as a mediator and potential ally, but his hesitation about opposing Bibi Dong reveals lingering loyalty and caution.
  • Jiang Xuan and both Douluo: Jiang Xuan attempts to recruit them into his campaign against Bibi Dong, while openly acknowledging that their assistance will require an additional reward.

Ch. 110The Fifth Soul Ring

Key plot points and events

  • After Jiang Xuan’s arrangements are settled, Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo agree to stay near him, joining Sword Douluo Chen Xin as his protectors. The three powerful Titled Douluo make Jiang Xuan exceptionally well guarded.
  • Jiang Xuan spends 5,000 Merit Points on another God-Given Soul Ring. He intends to absorb a ring aged nearly 100,000 years while possessing only five rings, explaining its origin publicly as a reward from his second Divine Trial.
  • As the ring approaches 100,000 years, its pressure becomes severe. Chen Xin and the other Douluo fear Jiang Xuan may not survive, but he chooses to endure rather than stop.
  • After roughly half a minute, the ring begins turning red. Jiang Xuan is on the verge of completing the absorption when he roars, “Hold together!” and pushes for a final breakthrough.

Character developments and interactions

  • Jiang Xuan shows determination and strategic awareness: he accepts the danger because he believes the resulting strength is necessary in case Bibi Dong becomes a god sooner than expected.
  • Chen Xin trusts Jiang Xuan’s resilience despite his own doubts and chooses not to interfere.
  • Chrysanthemum and Ghost Douluo begin reconsidering their relationship with Jiang Xuan. Impressed by his talent and the rewards they have received, they privately decide to ask to join the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect after the absorption.
  • Chrysanthemum raises the idea with Ghost, who welcomes it; the longtime comrades quickly agree.

Significant themes

  • Ambition and risk: Jiang Xuan willingly suffers a potentially fatal trial for greater strength.
  • Power and loyalty: Chrysanthemum and Ghost weigh past loyalty to Spirit Hall against the tangible opportunities and better treatment Jiang Xuan offers.
  • Uncertain fate: Jiang Xuan’s concern that his presence may alter the timeline creates urgency around preparing for future threats.

Ch. 111Turning up the pressure on Tang San

Plot points and events

  • Jiang Xuan accelerates his God-Given Spirit Ring’s transformation, enduring intense pain as it becomes a 150,000-year Soul Ring. The process raises his Soul Power to level 57; he then spends merit points to reach level 60 and hits another bottleneck.
  • Though he believes he could grow much stronger by spending more merit points, he chooses not to rush, partly to avoid overwhelming Chen Xin.
  • Jiang Xuan revises his plan for dealing with Tang San. Rather than wait for the tournament to reveal Xiao Wu’s identity, he intends to have Gui Mei alert Spirit Hall that a human-form Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast is at Shrek Academy.
  • The bait is meant to test Bibi Dong’s condition and provoke a response. Jiang Xuan expects Tang San to protect Xiao Wu and Tang Hao to intervene if she is threatened.
  • Yue Guan and Gui Mei ask to join the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, but Chen Xin refuses. He recognizes they want to support Jiang Xuan’s potential and suggests Jiang Xuan may have a faction of his own in mind. Jiang Xuan admits he has considered the idea.

Character developments and interactions

  • Jiang Xuan shows confidence in his body and power, but also restraint: he stops increasing the Soul Ring’s age once he reaches a substantial gain. He also shifts from a tournament-based scheme to a more direct test of Spirit Hall.
  • Chen Xin acts as a mentor and strategist, recognizing the motives behind Yue Guan and Gui Mei’s request and prompting Jiang Xuan to consider his own leadership ambitions.
  • Yue Guan and Gui Mei openly commit themselves to Jiang Xuan’s future, despite their usual bickering. Their playful argument over being called “sisters” contrasts with the seriousness of their offer.
  • Jiang Xuan views Tang San’s devotion to Xiao Wu as a predictable vulnerability, while Tang Hao is the likely safeguard who could draw Spirit Hall into a confrontation.

Significant themes

  • Power balanced by restraint: Jiang Xuan gains immense strength but chooses not to maximize it recklessly.
  • Strategy and manipulation: He plans to use Xiao Wu’s danger to draw out Tang San, Tang Hao, and possibly Bibi Dong.
  • Loyalty and ambition: Yue Guan and Gui Mei’s allegiance, along with Chen Xin’s advice, points toward Jiang Xuan potentially founding a new faction.
  • Uncertainty and information: Jiang Xuan’s central concern is discovering Bibi Dong’s hidden condition and how it might shape Spirit Hall’s actions.

Ch. 112Parasites

Plot points and events

  • Yue Guan and Gui Mei consider joining a faction Jiang Xuan may found. He welcomes their interest but asks them to wait, since he has not settled on a plan. He then asks Gui Mei for help with another matter.
  • The chapter reveals that Spirit Hall has deteriorated during Bibi Dong’s three-year seclusion. With Hu Liena handling administration, corrupt officials have begun stealing subsidies, selling access to Spirit Hall Academy, extorting wealthy families, and favoring rich litigants.
  • Gui Mei reports Spirit Hall’s situation to Jiang Xuan after investigating it. Jiang Xuan recognizes that the organization is losing the support of ordinary soul masters, but, lacking a power base of his own, can do little for now. His immediate priority is monitoring Bibi Dong.
  • Gui Mei uses a loyal former subordinate to alert Hu Liena that a hundred-thousand-year soul beast may be hiding in Suotuo City. Hu Liena, unsure how to handle the matter, seeks Bibi Dong’s guidance in her secret chamber.

Character developments and interactions

  • Jiang Xuan shows caution and long-term thinking: he does not commit to founding a faction before he has a concrete plan, and he focuses first on watching Bibi Dong.
  • Yue Guan and Gui Mei remain willing to work under Jiang Xuan and accept his request to wait. Gui Mei demonstrates resourcefulness by using his old Spirit Hall connections discreetly.
  • Hu Liena is portrayed as earnest but politically inexperienced. Although she holds administrative authority, she has failed to recognize or stop corruption within Spirit Hall. Faced with the report, she turns to her teacher rather than act alone.
  • Bibi Dong remains absent from public affairs, but her intimidating presence still shapes behavior: Hu Liena is careful to approach her only because she considers the information important.

Significant themes
