Chapter 1: Restaurant! Explosion!
[Good morning! This is Wind City Radio Station. I'm your neighbor, Sugisaki Hideo, here once again to bring you a refreshing morning greeting.]
[And now, it's music time...]
[---]
[Did that last song feel relaxing enough? Next, let's turn our attention to the latest news—]
[Not long ago, the magical girl active in Wind City, "Shine☆-chan," was joined by a new blue-themed magical girl. I'm sure everyone remembers her—]
[Yesterday, the blue magical girl dealt with a newly emerged monster while...]
[However, monster activity has been getting more frequent lately. Even your friendly neighbor is getting a little scared...]
[All right, next is the letter-reading segment—]
[Thanks to fan "Little Sea" for writing in—Mr. Sugisaki, your voice is very magnetic, but sometimes you sound rather listless. Is work too exhausting?]
[Haha, thank you for your concern... Let's look at the next letter.]

The radio on the table was switched off.
A hand casually rested on the radio, turning off Wind City Radio Station's broadcast... Sitting at the dining table was a very young-looking man.
Judging from his features, this man couldn't exactly be called "ordinary-looking." He could even be considered quite dashing.
How should he be described?
He had a very typical—perhaps even stereotypical—ancient-style handsome guy look.
His features were refined, yet unmistakably masculine. His hair seemed fairly long, tied into a single ponytail behind his head.
In short, he was handsome.
"Ahm—"
The man casually ate the sandwich in his hand. As he chewed slowly, he propped up his chin, apparently lost in thought.
Honestly, even with such a simple pose, his looks gave off the feeling that no one should disturb his thoughts.
Unfortunately, even if someone had been here, they never would've guessed...
"Ugh, I'm out of money... I really want to make some cash."
There was hardly any doubt that this man, who gave off the strange contrast of someone like him shouldn't be saying that, was a transmigrator.
When he crossed over, both his age and body had become younger, though his mind remained as sharp as ever—Cong Yu.
Yes, Cong Yu's name was Cong Yu.
Truly something to sigh over.
But from another perspective, after arriving in this world, it differed from his previous life and lacked many "works" and such.
Cong Yu had thus avoided much of the awkwardness tied to his name. That counted as a blessing amid misfortune.
Cong Yu, seventeen, a student... Heh heh heh, mm mm ah ah ah!
He lived alone in a villa district northeast of Wind City. His house was fairly large. Unmarried. A second-year student at Wind City High School. Didn't smoke, didn't drink...
He had no parents and no one legally responsible for raising him. Because he was desperately short on money, he'd previously worked as a monster and risen to executive rank through his own efforts.
Then he'd discovered that a pervert in the organization was eyeing his body, so he'd decided to retire for the time being.
Now he drew manga at home to barely make a living. When he was in the mood, he'd stay up late almost every night; when he wasn't, he'd play on his phone until he passed out.
He didn't drink a warm glass of milk before bed. Whenever he was exhausted, he'd collapse into sleep and sleep until dawn... Even the "doctor" said he was about to die.
That was Cong Yu's current situation.
Cong Yu slowly ate his breakfast. Just as he took a sip of hot milk, he heard shouting from nearby neighbors.
"Hey! Isn't that... Shine☆-chan?"
"It really is Shine☆-chan!"
"Shine☆! Shine☆!"
"..." Cong Yu paused, then sighed with a gloomy face. "Kira-kira all day long... So damn noisy."
Grumbling like that, Cong Yu opened the dining room window and looked outside. He immediately saw a golden magical girl flying through the air.
The one being chased by the golden magical girl was a monster holding a package in its arms... with insect wings on its back.
The two were constantly chasing each other through the air.
Visible to the naked eye, magic circles of the same golden hue continuously gathered in the magical girl's hands, firing energy bullets one after another.
"..." Cong Yu took a deep breath and looked at
the street riddled with craters from magical blasts, narrowing his eyes at the monster and magical girl in the sky.
The monster looked like a muscular man with a bare upper body. Its nose was remarkably long and sharp... From this angle, it was probably a mosquito monster.
The one pursuing the mosquito monster was the magical girl permanently stationed in Wind City—the golden girl known as [Shine☆-chan].
As she casually flew about and attacked the monster, she wore an elaborate lace dress that didn't seem to hinder her movements at all.
That was what made magical girls special.
Girls of the appropriate age who were affected by monster power or abnormal magical energy could become magical girls and gain magic.
They also never aged and possessed tenacious, almost willpower-based vitality—immortal bodies, eternal youth, immortality, magical power.
They were practically another species.
Normally, as a former monster executive, Cong Yu should've helped his monster comrade, but... since he'd already retired.
It was better not to stir up trouble.
Feeling that the magical girl had ruined his good mood for the day, Cong Yu lowered his head and ate his breakfast sausage, deciding that what he couldn't see couldn't bother him.
Then, in the very next instant, Cong Yu felt a sense of danger.
In the gap between eternity and an instant, Cong Yu sensed that something was wrong and immediately raised his head...
What entered his sight was the mosquito monster, struck in the abdomen by [Shine☆-chan]'s "Knight Kick" and flying straight toward the window.
And Cong Yu's seat was directly facing that window.
Boom!!!
In an instant, the window glass shattered into pieces, breaking apart in the air with a crisp sound.
Cong Yu's eyes widened as he watched the mosquito monster spinning through the air, the glass fragments flying like shotgun pellets.
And that golden magical girl, still holding her impact pose, flying into his arms...
Boom!!!
With tremendous force, Cong Yu, wearing an expression of utter despair, was blasted into the opposite wall and ended up sitting against it.
It hurt... It hurt like hell... He felt like he was going to cough up blood.
Cong Yu glanced at the yellow-themed magical girl sprawled on top of him, then at the mosquito monster that had gotten up and was looking around.
After seeing Cong Yu's appearance and features, the mosquito monster immediately gave him a thumbs-up. It seemed to recognize him.
Wait, why did it look like my mission's complete? Its earlier flight path...
Cong Yu stared with dead fish eyes, realizing that the mosquito monster had clearly recognized him. Judging by its previous flight path,
it had deliberately led the magical girl in here, hadn't it?
Wiggle wiggle.
The mosquito monster made all sorts of faces at Cong Yu as he lay there—
Wiggle wiggle.
Wiggling your eyebrows won't help! I'm retired already! Get the hell out of my house, or I'll crush you with one hand!
Cong Yu was certain his expression had become horribly twisted. Seeing that, the mosquito monster instantly realized something—
Mosquito Monster: I'd heard that Mr. Cong Yu loves torturing magical girls the most. According to "Lord Red," magical girls' screams can be heard from Mr. Cong Yu's room every night...
Mosquito Monster: Mr. Cong Yu regards magical girls as mortal enemies. He truly is a role model for our kind! I understand! I'm gradually understanding everything!
Watching the mosquito monster fly out through the window with an admiring look—incidentally wrecking his window even more thoroughly—
Cong Yu could only sigh... The magical girl on top of him immediately sprang to her feet and warily looked around.
"Ha! Monster... Huh, did it escape?"
"Mm-hmm, magical girl Shine☆ has protected this city for another day! Are you all right, citizen?"
"..."
"I'm fine."
Cong Yu answered perfunctorily. He stared calmly at the wrecked dining room around him, his tone equally calm. "It's just that my newly renovated kitchen was destroyed, my peaceful breakfast time was interrupted, my sausage flew away and got squashed, a magical girl slammed me into a wall and nearly made me cough blood, and I might have soft tissue injuries... That's all."
That didn't sound like it was just anything at all, did it?!
Shine☆-chan looked somewhat embarrassed and sincerely pressed her hands together. "Sorry, sorry. Um... homeowner's insurance or something?"
Homeowner's insurance had compensation provisions for damages "caused during battles between monsters and magical girls."
But unfortunately...
"Let me make this clear first: I'm not the homeowner, just the tenant. And while there is insurance, once you file a claim, the insurance company will inspect every item that needs compensation with all kinds of excuses... In the end, they'll probably only compensate about fifty percent of the actual losses, right?"
