The Pontiff's Knights were currently stationed outside the city.
Although the Pontiff had ordered Vlad to lead the Pontiff's Knights in guarding the border against any unusual developments, Vlad had not actually gone to the border.
He had sent the other Pontiff's Knights ahead to make preparations at the border, while he himself remained near the city with the rest of them.
