In Mountain Forest Town, four people had gathered in blacksmith Callus's blacksmith shop: Chahar, the butler of Mountain Forest Castle; blacksmith Callus and his son Barr; and Ram, the son of Carpenter William.
After so many days, Callus had finished forging the curved-shaft plow's plowshare. With Chahar's approval, he had also invited William's son Ram, a carpenter's apprentice, to lend a hand and complete the plow body.
Why had they not asked the more skilled Carpenter William?
William had simply been far too busy these past few days. Callus had a task assigned by the lord, and so did William.
Besides, working with Black Ironwood was truly grueling, far more difficult than processing ordinary timber.
If not for Chahar's coordination, William would not even have been willing to let his son come help Callus.
"Finished!"
Amid excited cries, Callus finally completed the assembly of the curved-shaft plow with Ram's help.
The plow handle, plow bed, moldboard, plowshare, plow beam, and everything else were all in place. Using Luo Ning's drawings as a reference, Callus and Ram had recreated the curved-shaft plow remarkably well.
"Hahaha!"
Laughing heartily, Callus walked over, picked up a jug of wine, and took a gulp. His cheeks were flushed red. "After all these days, we've finally completed the task Lord Luo Ning gave us!"
He was not merely happy about completing the task. What delighted him even more was having made this plow.
Any craftsman, whether a blacksmith, carpenter, or mason, viewed the things they completed as works of art.
And this curved-shaft plow was something unprecedented. Though it had been created by the lord, as the first person to build it with his own hands, Callus would have enough to brag about for the rest of his life.
Barr and Ram could brag about it
