Yu Yaochen stared at Gu Yuechen's slightly pale face with a complicated look. After a moment, he reached out to take Gu Yuechen's hand.
The weather had turned cooler. The instant Yu Yaochen's fingertips touched the back of Gu Yuechen's hand, he realized how terribly cold it was and couldn't help regretting not finding him sooner.
"Yuechen, your hand is freezing. How about sitting in my car for a while? The heater's on." Yu Yaochen coaxed him softly.
Gu Yuechen tried to shake off his hand, but Yu Yaochen seemed to sense it and gripped him even tighter.
"Let go of me." Gu Yuechen's eyes reddened, his voice carrying the faintest sob that would have gone unnoticed if one wasn't listening closely. "You're leaving the country in less than a month. Why do you even care about me? Even if I drink myself to death or freeze to death on the street..."
Yu Yaochen's expression darkened abruptly, his voice laced with restrained anger. "Yuechen, don't say things like that. It's bad luck."
Gu Yuechen fell silent for a moment, then looked up at him. "You're scared?"
"Yes." Yu Yaochen nodded without hesitation. "I'm scared."
Gu Yuechen stopped struggling and, following Yu Yaochen's posture, tucked himself back into Yu Yaochen's embrace.
"Then don't go abroad, okay?" Where Yu Yaochen couldn't see, Gu Yuechen's eyes were utterly cold, yet his words brimmed with pleading, as though he truly feared losing Yu Yaochen. "You came out so late to find me, so I must matter to you. If that's the case, why are you still getting married? Aren't you suffering too?"
Yu Yaochen said nothing. Gu Yuechen thought he was considering it, so he waited patiently.
Several minutes later, Yu Yaochen spoke with a sigh in his voice.
"I am suffering, but time will smooth it over." Yu Yaochen sounded as if he were comforting himself, and as if he were persuading Gu Yuechen to let go of these feelings. Then he said, "Yuechen, you're drunk. I'll take you home."
At this point, Gu Yuechen knew he should stop.
Yu Yaochen wasn't as easy to seduce as he'd imagined. Perhaps his heart wasn't with Pei Huanyi, but he wouldn't easily leave Pei Huanyi. He could still be considered a qualified partner.
Reason told him he should give up. If this went on, he would lose sight of his original purpose and go too far.
But ever since hearing that Yu Yaochen was about to take Pei Huanyi abroad, he had lost all reason.
He was jealous of Yu Yaochen, and he hated Yu Yaochen.
Yu Yaochen was like the opposite of his life, possessing everything he had ever dreamed of.
A perfect family background, astonishing talent, and parents who had been by his side since childhood.
Even Pei Huanyi, whom he had pursued at all costs yet dared not touch, seemed insignificant in Yu Yaochen's eyes. Yu Yaochen even spoke with lofty arrogance, as though marrying Pei Huanyi were a favor bestowed upon him.
Why did Yu Yaochen get to have so much? He clearly didn't even want Pei Huanyi and had no feelings for him, yet he had still taken him away.
He even wanted to take away his occasional chances to see Pei Huanyi. How could that not make him hate him?
If only Yu Yaochen could be ruined, just like him.
"Yuechen." Yu Yaochen gently patted Gu Yuechen's back. "It's late. Let's go back."
Gu Yuechen's gaze darkened. He lifted his head and looked at Yu Yaochen with an obedient, affectionate expression.
When Yu Yaochen met his gaze, his heartbeat seemed to stop for a moment. He immediately looked away in flustered embarrassment.
"I don't want to go back," Gu Yuechen said. "I still want to drink."
Yu Yaochen frowned. "If you drink too much, your stomach will feel awful."
"Can you stay with me?" Gu Yuechen clasped Yu Yaochen's hand in return. "Just for tonight. Once tonight is over, I'll let go of my feelings for you, okay?"
The expression on Yu Yaochen's face changed. He seemed to have been persuaded.
"Where do you want to drink?" Yu Yaochen let Gu Yuechen hold his hand. As if conceding, he no longer avoided Gu Yuechen's gaze. "It's too cold here. Let's go somewhere else."
"How about a bar?" Gu Yuechen smiled, coldness hidden in his eyes. "You're leaving me, so you can treat me."
After arriving in that neon-lit, pleasure-seeking place, Yu Yaochen began to regret it.
He rarely drank in his daily life and could practically be considered a lightweight. How could he have brought Gu Yuechen somewhere like this?
"Once we finish this bottle, we'll go back."
The music around them was deafening. Unsure whether Gu Yuechen had heard him, Yu Yaochen leaned close to his ear and repeated himself.
Gu Yuechen suddenly turned his face, and their lips brushed lightly against each other.
Yu Yaochen's breathing caught abruptly. Panicked, he explained, "I'm sorry... I... I didn't mean to."
He carefully watched Gu Yuechen's expression, afraid of seeing even the slightest displeasure on his face.
But Gu Yuechen seemed unconcerned by that little incident, which could barely be called a kiss. His face revealed no emotion as he handed Yu Yaochen a glass.
"Drink with me."
"Yuechen, I can't drink. I still have to drive you home."
The moment he finished speaking, he met Gu Yuechen's watery eyes. In the end, he couldn't bear to refuse. He took the glass and drank a mouthful.
Gu Yuechen had deliberately ordered strong liquor. After one glass, a blush surfaced on Yu Yaochen's cool, pale face.
Gu Yuechen quickly poured him another glass and used his words to muddle Yu Yaochen's mind.
"Chenchen, will you miss me after you go abroad?" Gu Yuechen leaned in close, his warm breath brushing Yu Yaochen's face. "If you miss me, what will you do?"
Sure enough, Yu Yaochen looked at a loss. He accepted the glass and drank it down in one gulp.
Gu Yuechen glanced at the people on the dance floor, then suddenly rose, took off his coat, and tossed it into Yu Yaochen's arms.
"I'm going to dance for a while. Drink by yourself."
Without waiting for Yu Yaochen to react, Gu Yuechen turned and walked onto the dance floor, swaying his body to the music.
In truth, he couldn't dance at all, and his limbs were terribly uncoordinated.
But he had a beautiful, innocent face that made people overlook those minor flaws, letting their gaze linger only on his face and his light, alluring figure.
Before long, several men on the dance floor noticed him and pressed close of their own accord.
Gu Yuechen pretended not to see the ill intent in their eyes and kept dancing, like a ripe peach waiting to be picked at any moment.
One bold young man reached out, intending to pull Gu Yuechen over to their table for drinks.
Before he could touch Gu Yuechen, another hand clamped down hard around his wrist, the force so great that tears nearly sprang to his eyes.
"Please don't touch him." Yu Yaochen's eyes were dark as he stared at the man as though looking at something dead.
His face was equally stunning, but unlike Gu Yuechen's overt beauty, his features were cool and refined, carrying an air of noble reserve that made others afraid to profane him.
Moreover, his presence was extraordinary. He didn't look like an ordinary person at all.
The group didn't dare provoke him further. After apologizing, they hurried away.
Yu Yaochen turned to Gu Yuechen, his eyes revealing a morbid possessiveness that even he himself had not noticed. He forcibly pulled him off the dance floor.
Gu Yuechen was pressed into a chair and complained unhappily, "I wasn't done dancing yet."
"We're only drinking, not dancing."
"But you won't even drink with me." Gu Yuechen pouted. "I've never even seen you pour me a drink on your own. This is so boring. I might as well go dance."
After saying that, Gu Yuechen prepared to stand again.
Yu Yaochen grabbed his hand. As if afraid Gu Yuechen would shake him off, he simply interlaced their fingers and held on tightly.
"I'll drink."
