"Do you think it's nothing worth mentioning?" Gu Yuechen stared coldly at Xie Wangchi. "Then how about I slap you?"
Xie Wangchi froze for a moment, then let out a derisive laugh.
"Looks like you have no idea what you did wrong."
"What did I do wrong?" Gu Yuechen retorted indignantly. "I only had a few drinks with Yu Yaochen. His alcohol tolerance was terrible—that has nothing to do with me."
"One of my friends saw you forcing drinks on him with their own eyes."
Gu Yuechen's expression shifted slightly. No wonder Xie Wangchi had appeared at the bar so coincidentally that day.
It seemed Yu Yaochen knew quite a lot of people. He would have to be more careful when meeting up with him in the future.
"Why aren't you saying anything?" Xie Wangchi lifted his chin, speaking arrogantly. "Couldn't find an excuse to argue back?"
"So what if I did force drinks on him?" Gu Yuechen continued defending himself. "Would a little alcohol kill him?"
"Was it really just about making him drink?" Seeing that he showed no remorse, Xie Wangchi's gaze carried a trace of mockery. "I haven't forgotten what you said to me that day."
Having his intentions exposed, Gu Yuechen instinctively looked away.
"I saw how painfully you were secretly in love with him, so I just wanted to remind you to seize the opportunity."
The moment he finished speaking, Xie Wangchi suddenly reached out and gripped his cheek, a dangerous look in his eyes.
"I used to think you were merely vicious. Now I see that you're both bad and stupid."
Xie Wangchi's voice was low, tinged with restrained anger. "Did you think that if Chenchen slept with someone, his engagement could be called off? You really underestimate the Yu Household. Even if Chenchen had truly slept with someone, it wouldn't change anything. But you—the real culprit who harmed him—will definitely die miserably."
Xie Wangchi's grip was so strong that Gu Yuechen could not speak at all, and he was forced to meet the other man's gaze.
Why would Xie Wangchi say something like that?
Had he discovered that he had slept with Yu Yaochen, and come to cause him trouble because of it?
Gu Yuechen's body trembled faintly without his awareness. He was a little worried that Pei Huanyi had found out.
Xie Wangchi noticed it. His eyes darkened slightly as his gaze drifted downward. Through Gu Yuechen's slightly open collar, he saw his beautiful, alluring collarbones.
His breathing suddenly turned ragged. As though his fingers had been burned, he immediately released Gu Yuechen's face.
"Fuck." After cursing, Xie Wangchi wiped his hand on his trousers. "Scared now? If you don't have the guts, don't do bad things. I'm warning you, this is the last time. If I find out you have improper intentions again, I'll tell Chenchen's parents exactly what happened and have them deal with you."
"Stop trying to prevent them from going abroad, and don't even think about becoming friends with Chenchen. Someone like you doesn't deserve it."
Gu Yuechen let out a breath of relief. So he had not discovered it yet.
Xie Wangchi fastened his seatbelt and did not spare Gu Yuechen another glance.
"I'm leaving. Get out."
Gu Yuechen had not wanted to stay there in the first place. Without another word, he immediately got out of the car.
Watching the sports car speed away, Gu Yuechen's eyes gradually darkened.
As long as Yu Yaochen was around, he would have terrible luck.
One after another, people came looking for trouble with him.
He was truly sick of it.
When the day off came, Gu Yuechen showed up at the little Western-style house without saying a word beforehand.
He had no intention of ringing the doorbell. He took out his phone and called Yu Yaochen.
Ever since they had slept together, Yu Yaochen had answered his calls almost instantly, including this time.
Before Yu Yaochen could say anything, Gu Yuechen said coolly, "I'm at the door."
Less than two minutes later, Yu Yaochen hurried out and opened the gate for him, obvious joy written across his face.
"You're here." Yu Yaochen smiled. "Why didn't you tell me? I could've driven over to pick you up."
The moment Yu Yaochen opened the door, Gu Yuechen put on an obedient expression.
He stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Yu Yaochen's waist.
Yu Yaochen paused, then raised his arms around Gu Yuechen's shoulders, his voice incredibly gentle.
"What's wrong?"
Gu Yuechen pressed his face to Yu Yaochen's chest, his voice soft and weak enough to stir anyone's protective instincts.
"I missed you so much," Gu Yuechen said. "Hasn't it been several days since we last saw each other?"
Yu Yaochen's heart had already melted completely. Unable to help himself, he tightened his arms and hugged him even closer.
"I'm sorry. I've been busy with the art exhibition lately. Once I'm done, I'll come see you every day."
In truth, it was Gu Yuechen who had been neglecting Yu Yaochen.
The art exhibition had merely happened to coincide with it.
He did not want to see Yu Yaochen every day. He lied that he had to go home and eat with his family, barely replied to WeChat messages, and even when he did, his responses were perfunctory.
Yet Yu Yaochen never blamed him. Still, that was exactly what irritated Gu Yuechen about him.
Was it because he always acted so understanding that everyone liked him so much?
Gu Yuechen could not do that. He could only envy, resent, and hate Yu Yaochen, who was perfect in every way.
"I'm a little cold." Gu Yuechen gently pushed him. "Let's go inside."
"Alright."
Yu Yaochen released him, choosing instead to hold Gu Yuechen's hand. He brought Gu Yuechen's icy fingers to his lips and gently breathed warm air onto them.
Gu Yuechen frowned and discreetly pulled his hand away.
"There's no need for that. I'm not that cold."
Yu Yaochen failed to notice the fleeting disgust in his eyes. His smile remained gentle. "When you leave, I'll get you a warmer coat to wear home."
Gu Yuechen gave a quiet hum.
Only after entering did he realize that the heating was on inside.
For such a large house, keeping the heat on like this must have been expensive.
Gu Yuechen had never lived in such a warm house.
Every winter, the cramped, damp rental room was bitterly cold. Even burrowing beneath the blankets could not warm him up. His feet felt like popsicles frozen in a freezer—cold and aching.
What gave him the biggest headache was doing laundry and washing dishes. Every time, it was pure torment, and his hands would freeze numb.
Gu Yuechen raised his eyes to look at Yu Yaochen's profile, thinking that this young master would never experience anything like that in his entire life.
So what did it matter if he tasted the bitterness of love?
"Are you alone again today?" Once warmed by the heating, Gu Yuechen soon felt hot and took off his coat. Then he added, "Not seeing anyone else again?"
Yu Yaochen hung up his coat, a shy smile appearing on his face.
"Not exactly." Yu Yaochen looked at Gu Yuechen with burning eyes. "You're the exception."
Gu Yuechen did not take Yu Yaochen's sweet words to heart. After sitting on the sofa for a while, he grew bored and stood up, intending to take a look at the studio.
Yu Yaochen followed behind him.
When he was creating, the studio was off-limits. If it had been anyone else, Yu Yaochen would definitely have refused to let them enter.
But when facing Gu Yuechen, Yu Yaochen felt only shyness and nervousness. He feared Gu Yuechen would dislike his work, without feeling the slightest displeasure.
The moment Gu Yuechen entered the studio, he saw the oil paints he had previously given Yu Yaochen on the table. Several tubes were nearly used up.
Their owner seemed reluctant to throw them away. The ends of the tubes had been rolled up, as though trying to squeeze out every last bit of paint.
Gu Yuechen only glanced at them before withdrawing his gaze.
He turned around, pulled Yu Yaochen into an embrace, raised his head, and kissed his soft lips.
Yu Yaochen was startled for a moment. Half-closing his eyes, he deepened the kiss.
Perhaps because of their attempt at the hotel that day, they had become much more practiced at kissing. Before long, both their breathing had turned uneven.
Yu Yaochen in particular had ears so red they looked ready to bleed.
A moment later, Gu Yuechen raised his hand to undo the buttons on Yu Yaochen's clothes.
Yu Yaochen came back to his senses and pressed down Gu Yuechen's hand.
"Let's go... to the lounge..." Yu Yaochen panted softly.
"But I want to do it here." Gu Yuechen kissed his ear, using a gentle voice to tempt him into giving up his reason. "You don't want to?"
Gu Yuechen knew Yu Yaochen could not refuse him.
In less than a minute, he successfully stripped Yu Yaochen's clothes off and pushed him to the floor.
This time, he held a trace of vindictiveness, and there was not the slightest gentleness in his movements.
Gu Yuechen stared into Yu Yaochen's shy yet affectionate eyes, the thrill of conquest reaching its peak in that moment.
The person Xie Wangchi treasured like a precious jewel, whom he would rather find a substitute for than touch, was now lying beneath him, eagerly pleasing him like one of those little playthings at the club.
Heaven's favored son was nothing more than this.
