Rejection

Just as she looked around, a phantom of a humanoid woman appeared before her.

The phantom had no face, only two glowing clusters where her eye sockets should have been. Her body was formed from pure, deep-blue spiritual energy, its surface strewn with stars. She was clearly the same height as Daisy, yet looking at her felt as unfathomable as a human gazing up at the stars.

"Daisy Johnson, are you willing to become Earth's guardian? Earth's future is filled with uncertainty. It needs your protection." The woman's lips moved slightly. She was speaking a language Daisy had never heard before, yet Daisy understood every word.

It was a simple method of psychic communication, one Daisy could use as well.

Studying the mysterious female phantom, she thought quickly. "You are Captain Universe? Many ancient texts have mentioned your name. They call you the Mother of the Universe. As the guardian of Eternity, the personification of the universe, why have you come to me?"

Though she had phrased it as a question, she was certain that this thing before her was Captain Universe. What had she done to trigger whatever response mechanism had brought her out?

The phantom woman tilted her head slightly. She felt that Daisy was not following the expected script.

The long speech she had prepared was now impossible to deliver, so she went straight to the point. "Earth is the core of the universe. This is where everything begins and ends. Your power is still insufficient to protect this place. You need greater power."

Daisy stared intently at her, calculating in silence, before finally shaking her head.

"I refuse your power. It would limit my path forward. If there's nothing else, I'm leaving."
