Daisy assembled five fleets for this assault: thirty-five large warships and countless medium and small vessels. Two supercapital ships, The Just and The Resilient, deployed alongside the fleet.
The main force crossed the vast sea of stars and encountered scattered Brood and Kree resistance forces in the Eastland Star Corridor. They were troops left behind from the previous struggle between the two sides for control of the corridor.
"Full speed ahead! The enemy is in complete disarray. Take Xylos Fortress first, then come back and wipe them out!" Some suggested proceeding more cautiously and eliminating the Brood blocking their path, but Daisy rejected the proposal. Who knew how long it would take the Brood Queen to recover?
Prepare? Prepare for what? Throw the whole army in and charge headlong. That was all there was to it.
Pursuer Korath, her former ally from the purge of the Governing Council, voiced his opposition. The Kree political system had no concept of loyalty to a monarch. He, too, wanted to follow Ronan's path from the police system back into the military, which was why he had joined this expedition. Yet after several of Daisy's orders, he kept offering supposedly "prudent" suggestions.
"Pursuer, you don't understand warfare. Our fighting spirit and the pride of the Kree Empire should not be wasted on these bugs in the road. Full speed ahead!"
She had nothing in common with any famed commander, but in this era of comparing the worst, she only needed to appear a little better than everyone else. Stepping on others would make her stand out. Daisy kept a cold face and used her authority as commander to suppress every dissenting voice.
She gave a speech that left no room for retreat: success was permitted, failure was not. Its content was largely the same
