Shi Sheng did not ask Elaine that question.

He had already been given enough to process today.

Immense joy gradually engulfed Shi Sheng—so Elaine had taken their marriage this seriously.

Before he could even start celebrating, Elaine suddenly reached out and covered his eyes.

"Shengsheng."

He heard the Alpha's voice, somewhat hoarse and hesitant. "So, please forgive my selfishness—"

"Even without a mark, would you still be willing to be my Omega?"

Shi Sheng nodded vigorously without even thinking.

He liked him so much.

He really, really liked Elaine.

Elaine lowered his hand, his gentle gaze falling into Shi Sheng's eyes.

"Then may I have the honor of inviting my Omega on a date tomorrow?"

Shi Sheng's eyes lit up.

He had thought Elaine was too busy and had forgotten the date he'd promised.

Then he quietly chastised himself. How could he think that about Elaine?

Seeing his feelings written all over his face, Elaine finally smiled.

As for the things—or people—that had made Shi Sheng sad...

They would all disappear from Shi Sheng's world.

After seeing Shi Sheng back to Carlos, Elaine returned to the Military Department.

Immersed in the joy of having a date tomorrow, Shi Sheng nearly failed to notice Yumian grabbing a coat and preparing to leave.

Butler Merico followed behind Yumian, trying to persuade him, but Yumian acted as though he could not hear him and went straight into the aircraft.

Shi Sheng grabbed Merico and asked through his voice device, "Yumian, what's, wrong?"

Merico wiped the sweat from his brow with a handkerchief. "The young master said he's going to the Capital Police Bureau. What should we do?"

Remembering what Elaine had said about Yumian and Hovis, Shi Sheng also felt that this was not good, but Yumian could not be stopped and had already vanished from sight.

He could only comfort Merico. "It's, okay. Yumian, knows, his, limits."

As he spoke, he remembered how he had driven Merico away and run to the seaside to stare blankly into space, making him feel embarrassed again.

"I'm, sorry, for, making, you, worry, Merico."

Merico hurriedly waved his hands. "It's fine as long as you're all right, Madam."

Then he sighed again and spoke of Yumian. "You may not know this, but the young master has been much better these past two years. Still, there was a period before when he was like this—always making a fuss, impossible for anyone to stop. After going to the Capital Police Bureau, he would return and refuse to eat or drink."

"The young master is such a well-behaved child. It's fine for him to have a bit of temper sometimes. I'm just afraid he'll hurt himself."

Shi Sheng immediately grew worried as well.

It seemed that things between Yumian and Hovis were not as simple as Elaine had made them sound.

Unable to set his mind at ease, he simply pulled Merico along and followed Yumian to the Capital Police Bureau.

However, Yumian did not find Hovis at the Capital Police Bureau.

The young officer he stopped scratched his head. "I don't know where the commissioner went either. He doesn't come here every day."

As the highest-ranking police commissioner in the Empire, it was already rare enough for him to personally come to the Capital Police Bureau to handle cases every other day.

But because of what had happened last time, Yumian did not entirely trust this young officer.

Seeing his unfriendly expression, the officer hesitated before saying, "Maybe he went to Sky Street?"

There was only one Sky Street in the capital.

It was not a good place.

Yumian's expression darkened slightly before he turned and left.

Shi Sheng had just opened the aircraft door when he saw Yumian's aircraft take off again. He hurriedly climbed back inside.

"Where is the young master going now?" Merico was still wiping sweat. "Madam, may I make a small request? Could you slow down a little?"

At this speed, couldn't they spare a thought for an old man?

But Shi Sheng, who was usually so considerate, shook his head and solemnly patted Merico on the shoulder.

A hint of meaning passed through his expression: Yumian was probably more important. Please bear with it.

Merico felt the sweat on his forehead flowing even faster.

By the time Yumian's aircraft stopped ahead of them, he had already begun considering where he ought to be buried.

—It was one thing for the young master to come here, but he had brought Madam along too. How was Merico supposed to explain this to the master of the house?!

Consumed by his emotions, Yumian did not notice Shi Sheng following behind him at all.

Enduring the unpleasant neon lights and the deafening music audible even from the street corner, he entered Sky Street.

"Sky Street," the most chaotic place in the capital.

But it was also the place people enjoyed the most.

There was food and alcohol here, as well as beauties and a tomorrow no one had to think about.

What had Hovis come here for? To drink? But he had clearly stopped drinking long ago.

Could he have come here to eat? Yumian, you're really ridiculous.

Yumian mocked himself inwardly. What right did he have to care where Hovis went?

The colorful neon lights that fell over him felt cold. Yumian pulled his hood over his head and made his way deeper through the crowd.

But he did not know where to look for Hovis either.

The young master rarely came to places like this. Everything in the air made him uncomfortable—

There were the scents of many different kinds of information in the air.

He did not know how long he had walked. He only felt as though he were moving between the signs of one bar and restaurant after another, gradually becoming lost.

He stopped at the end of an alley with no way through. After thinking for a moment, he decided to return the way he had come.

Footsteps and the smell of alcohol came from behind him.

Yumian cautiously turned around and brushed past a stranger.

His wrist was seized. A nauseating stench drifted into his nose, and Yumian reflexively threw the man over his shoulder.

"Fuck."

The Alpha, reeking of alcohol, was dazed from the throw. Yumian headed for the mouth of the alley without looking back.

Having never been thrown by an Omega before, the Alpha scrambled up in humiliation and rage, practically lunging forward to wrap his arms around Yumian.

Every hair on Yumian's body stood on end. He raised his leg and kicked at the Alpha.

But because of his balance, the kick missed.

The Alpha's smug breath sprayed against Yumian's neck.

"Just an Omega, and you think you can compete with me in strength? You'd better know what's good for you. Keep me entertained, and I'll naturally let you go."

The smell made Yumian nearly vomit.

Seeing that Yumian was completely unaffected by his pheromones, the Alpha's eyes turned vicious as he greedily sniffed Yumian's neck.

"Such an expensive neck ring. Which young master came here looking for thrills? Heh, come find me. I'm the most thrilling..."

A gemstone ring rested on the little finger of Yumian's right hand.

In that instant, he lightly pressed it with his thumb. A needle hidden beneath the gemstone sprang out, and he drove it hard into the Alpha's arm.

The numbing sensation immediately made the Alpha release him on instinct.

Yumian turned back expressionlessly and kicked the Alpha to the ground.

He said nothing. Before the man could react, the long needle on his ring pierced mercilessly into the Alpha's eyeball.

"Ah—!!!!!!"

The scream was swallowed by the nearby music.

The Alpha howled in pain and tried to run, but Yumian's strength became immense in that instant. With his knees pinning down the Alpha's body, he was about to stab him a second time.

Cold moonlight fell across his face. His scarlet eyes remained beautiful, yet terrifyingly cold.

The Alpha screamed for help.

Panicked footsteps came from behind, and someone forcefully wrapped their arms around Yumian.

Yumian struggled instinctively, and Shi Sheng hurriedly grabbed his hand.

He had been afraid Yumian would notice him, so he had not dared follow too closely. He had nearly lost him.

After finally catching up, this scene had frightened him nearly out of his wits.

He could not let Yumian lose control here, much less let him kill someone!

Shi Sheng could not speak, so he could only keep using more strength in an attempt to stop Yumian.

But Yumian's eyes had already become somewhat unfocused.

He could not even sense Shi Sheng's presence. His sense of smell kept magnifying that Alpha's scent until it made him sick enough to vomit.

He forcefully broke free of Shi Sheng, raised his right hand high again, and drove the long needle on his ring toward the Alpha's other eye without hesitation—

He did not succeed. His hand was caught.

"Yumian!"

A somewhat familiar yet unfamiliar scent gradually drove away the smell of alcohol and the nauseating pheromones.

But it could not fully awaken Yumian's reason. Instead, it made him even angrier.

—They were all bastards. They were all bad people.

Everyone was stopping him. No one wanted him to have it easy.

Yumian struggled recklessly, looking for any chance to strike the Alpha on the ground again.

In his urgency, the newcomer wrapped an arm around his waist, lifted him up, and shoved him against the cold wall.

"Have you calmed down?"

He saw Hovis's face, his expression cold and ugly.

Yumian slowly came back to himself, and the ring returned to its original form.

"What are you doing?" Hovis's tone was no better than his expression. "You were going to kill him. Do you want to go to prison?"

Yumian's gaze was just as cold. "What does it matter if Carlos kills someone? Is this the first day you've known that?"

Hovis had not expected him to be so indifferent. Even his usual carefree demeanor was replaced by anger.

He was still gripping Yumian's wrist and applied some force. "Who taught you to kill people at the slightest provocation?"

"No one taught me." Yumian looked at him expressionlessly. "No one, ever taught me, anything."

He forcefully shook off Hovis's hand, took out a handkerchief, and wiped his hands with disgust.

"He might have wanted to rape me. I don't like his pheromones. They make me want to vomit."

After wiping his hands, he tossed the handkerchief to the ground. Yumian tilted his head and smiled. "I want to vomit, so I want to kill him. Are you going to arrest me, Hovis?"

Hovis's expression had already changed when he heard the first half of that statement.

But once Yumian finished speaking, the fury in his heart burned even more fiercely.

Yet he could still speak to Yumian calmly, even cruelly. "Your first counterattack already rendered him incapable of harming you. If you stabbed him again, it would no longer be self-defense but excessive defense."

"A third strike would be intentional assault."

"Yumian, how many more times did you want to stab him?"

Yumian found it amusing. "What does it have to do with you?"

"This isn't Carlos territory." Hovis's voice was icy. "Young master, killing someone comes with consequences."

Yumian clenched his fists tightly.

The atmosphere between them was freezing.

Shi Sheng ran to Yumian's side, but Hovis was so tall and broad that he could not even find a gap to get close.

But he could not care about that. He rudely pushed Hovis away, then hugged Yumian and carefully looked him over from head to toe.

Yumian held down his hands. "I'm fine."

Hovis seemed to use that brief gap to calm his anger. He walked over to the Alpha and kicked him.

"Why aren't you gone yet? Do you want me to call the police for you, or get you medical aid?"

Clutching his eye, the Alpha scrambled away.

Shi Sheng noticed that Yumian's breathing was uneven. He hurriedly hugged him again and patted the young man's back over and over.

But Yumian's eyes were still red.
