Background

Gu Xun'er was born with the strongest bloodline among the Gu Clan's younger generation. A wisp of the Golden Emperor Burning Heaven Flame was fused into her body from birth to make its eventual refinement easier. Her father, Gu Yuan, sent her to live in the Xiao Clan so that she could have a comparatively carefree childhood, while Ling Ying and Aunt Mu—both Dou Emperors—protected her in secret. 87

Her early interest in Wu Yan began with reports of the exceptionally young Dou Huang of the Mittel Clan. She dispatched Ling Ying to investigate the rumours, then chose to invest Gu Clan resources in Wu Yan after recognizing his potential. 24 27

Appearance

Gu Xun'er is described as a strikingly pretty child who grows into an elegant young woman of peerless beauty. Her composed manner and refined bearing make her stand out even among Jia Nan Academy's prodigies. 46 93 112

  • Wears an Ice-Blue Jade Bracelet whose blue-gold glow is particularly distinctive. 57
  • Manifests dazzling golden flames and a pair of golden Dou Qi wings when fighting. 101
  • Has long hair, which Wu Yan is shown stroking during their time in the Heavenly Tomb. 162

Personality

Gu Xun'er is cautious and discreet. When seeking help for Xiao Yan's cultivation regression, she asks Wu Yan to handle the matter quietly rather than exposing it to the entire Xiao Clan. 46 She remains composed when Wu Yue publicly calls her Wu Yan's “little sister-in-law,” later clarifying that she and Wu Yan are merely acquainted at that point. 76 77

She is also pragmatic about power and alliances. Rather than obsessing over the Tou She Ancient God Jade, she judges that securing the loyalty of a Battle Saint-level Wu Yan would be more valuable to the Gu Clan. 113 When Wu Yan gives her three fragments of the Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame map, she initially urges him to retain two so that he does not harm his own interests. 108

Wu Yan's growth inspires her competitive spirit. Despite possessing extraordinary bloodline advantages and extensive Gu Clan support, she cultivates harder after recognizing the disparity between their progress. 87 Her admiration gradually becomes open affection, possessiveness, and loyalty toward him. 159 164

Story Role / Major Arcs

Investment in Wu Yan

After verifying Wu Yan's potential through Ling Ying, Gu Xun'er provides him with valuable cultivation resources, including an Earth-class ice cultivation method, a matching Dou Technique, a Sect-Breaking Pill, and an Imperial Extreme Pill. Wu Yan accepts the arrangement as three future favors owed to her. 27

She later supplements the investment with three eighth-rank medicinal pills and the Emperor's Seal Technique, while warning Wu Yan that publicly using the technique would identify him with the Gu Clan. 74

Xiao Yan's Cultivation Regression

Gu Xun'er summons Wu Yan to discreetly investigate Xiao Yan's declining cultivation. Wu Yan identifies Xiao Yan's black ring as the source of the problem, exposing Yao Chen's soul within it and securing Yao Chen's offer to guide Xiao Yan in alchemy as compensation. 46 48

Jia Nan Academy

At age fifteen, Gu Xun'er enters Jia Nan Academy as a Five-Star Dou Spirit, immediately drawing Instructor Ruo Lin's attention as a possible “seed of legend.” 93 By sixteen, she reaches the Dou Wang realm, defeats the Inner Academy's strongest student, and becomes the academy's undisputed top-ranked student. 107 112

Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame Maps

Wu Yan gives Gu Xun'er three matching fragments of the Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame remnant map as a coming-of-age gift. Though tempted by their value, she prioritizes Wu Yan's interests and later returns the maps after she refines the Golden Emperor Burning Heaven Flame. 107 108 167

Return to the Gu Clan and Engagement

Gu Xun'er asks Wu Yan to escort her back to the Gu Clan. During their journey, she openly admires his Battle Saint potential and shows affection for his lifelike ice steed. 114 115 The Gu Clan subsequently approves their marriage alliance, recognizing the value of a Battle Saint who reached that realm at only twenty-seven. 118

Heavenly Tomb Expedition

During the Gu Clan's coming-of-age ceremony, Gu Xun'er's bloodline is confirmed as ten-star Divine Grade. She enters the Heavenly Tomb with Wu Yan, where he protects her, finds suitable energy bodies for her training, and helps her cultivate to the Peak 3-Transition Dou Zun realm. 162 163

After the expedition, she gives Wu Yan a Ninth-Tier Magic Core and promises that she will give herself to him completely once she advances to the Battle Saint realm. 164

Bodhi Ancient Tree

As a Half-Saint, Gu Xun'er leads the Gu Clan through the Ancient Desolate Domain's beast tide and uses the Golden Emperor Burning Heaven Flame to cleanse the Bodhi Ancient Tree. The tree absorbs her for a month, after which she emerges with substantial gains and a collection of Bodhi Seeds. 169 170

She then leaves for the Northwestern Continent to continue advancing toward the Battle Saint realm, confident that she and Wu Yan will not act beyond their limits before she succeeds. 170 171
