Before long, a stable space-time bubble formed within the turbulent flow, protecting her companions.
"Mephistopheles?" Delta stared at her in surprise. "Your energy fluctuations... are completely different."
"My inheritance awakened," Mephistopheles explained briefly, then looked beyond the turbulent flow. "The Forgotten Walker has chased us in."
Sure enough, the Forgotten Walker disregarded the danger and charged into the temporal turbulence. His black figure flickered in and out amid the chaotic currents of time.
"I found you." The Forgotten Walker released the Fog of Forgetting. "Even here, you cannot escape."
"Who said I was going to run?" Mephistopheles smiled.
Her hands formed seals at rapid speed as silver threads of space-time began weaving an extraordinarily complex structure. This was not a simple trap, but a conceptual space-time labyrinth.
Just as the Forgotten Walker prepared to attack, he discovered that he was already inside the labyrinth. Every direction held the same corridor, and every path led back to its own starting point.
"That's impossible!" He tried to destroy the labyrinth with the power of forgetting, only to find nowhere to begin—the labyrinth's every node connected to a different point in time. Destroy one, and a node from another time would immediately fill the gap.
"Your power makes others forget." Mephistopheles began Causal Reshaping. "But what if, in terms of causality, you had never existed?"
Silver light enveloped the Forgotten Walker. It was not an attack on his present, but a redefinition of the foundation of his existence.
If an existence that "made people forget" did not itself exist, then its power became a paradox.
The Forgotten Walker let out a shrill cry of agony. His form began to twist and collapse. The conceptual paradox made it impossible for him to sustain his own existence.
"No... that's impossible..." His voice grew weaker and
