The monitoring room was deathly silent. Everyone held their breath. The screen showed nothing but darkness; even the most advanced conceptual detectors could not penetrate that veil of blackness.
"Lord Lin Ye..." someone said in a trembling voice.
Theta stared fixedly at the data. "Life signal... undetectable..."
But in the very next second, a point of golden light suddenly burst forth from the darkness.
That golden point rapidly expanded, like a sun ignited in the night, tearing through the seven layers of blockade. Wherever the light passed, the darkness receded like a tide.
Lin Ye appeared once more, his staff spinning in his hand, not a single wound on his body.
He said lightly, "Seven of you came at me together, and that was it?"
"I thought you'd have some coordinated tactics. Turns out you're just fighting separately."
Lin Ye shook his head. "The Void may be powerful, but it truly lacks wisdom."
His words enraged all Seven Pillar Gods.
But Lin Ye was telling the truth—what the Void pursued was absoluteness and purity. Each of the Seven Pillar Gods was an independent entity. There was no genuine cooperation between them, only an accumulation of power.
"Do you know what your greatest problem is?" Lin Ye continued. "You're too pure."
"[Abyss of Annihilation] knows only how to end things, [Darkness of Restraint] knows only how to restrain, [Lord of Corrosion] knows only how to corrupt..."
"Each of you is the ultimate expression of a single attribute, but that is also why you have lost the ability to adapt."
He raised his staff. "And reality is precisely the most changeable thing of all."
The light on the staff began to shift, bright as day one moment and dim as night the next, blazing like fire one moment and cold as ice
