After a timeout for rest and adjustment, the entire Martial Garden team finally managed to pull themselves back from the brink of a collapse.
Dai Ming inbounded the ball, and Oda stepped straight out from the paint to receive it.
After successfully securing the basketball, Oda turned around to face Wu Yufei directly.
The two only locked in a stalemate for two seconds before Oda passed the ball out once more.
The entire Martial Garden team was running off-ball quite actively, constantly tearing at Miuradai's defense.
Through relentless effort, the Martial Garden team finally pierced Miuradai's defense, and Dai Ming delivered a bounce pass to Oda, who had run into an open space in the paint, allowing the latter to easily score a layup.
Three minutes into the start, Martial Garden finally got on the board.
Whoosh--!!
Following Oda's goal, the Martial Garden cheerleaders, who had already grown quite quiet, finally found a reason to cheer to their heart's content, as if relying on this single basket by Oda, Martial Garden could now blow the horn for a counterattack.
However, would Miuradai let Martial Garden do such a thing?
The answer was: how could that be possible!
After receiving the inbound pass from the baseline, Wu Yufei directly accelerated, leading the whole team in a rapid advance. The sudden change in tempo left the entire Martial Garden team not daring to relax in the slightest, as they hurried to pick up their defensive retreat.
When Wu Yufei drove into the frontcourt, Martial Garden's defense had not yet fully formed. Seeing an opportunity, Wu Yufei did not let it slip, charging fiercely straight toward the paint.
"Ichiro! Shota!"
Dai Ming knew deep down that he alone could never stop Wu Yufei, so he immediately called out to his teammates, preparing to hit Wu Yufei with a three-on-one trap.
Hearing their captain's call, the two teammates immediately swarmed toward Wu Yufei from left and right.
The situation on the court changed unpredictably, and Wu Yufei, who had been leading the charge just a moment ago, suddenly found himself trapped by three defenders.
"Great! Stop him!!"
Seeing Wu Yufei's fierce drive obstructed, a burst of cheers immediately rang out from the Martial Garden bench on the sidelines.
However, before their cheers could even finish, Wu Yufei had already activated Fancy Show mode.
First, he tucked the ball back behind him, dodging Dai Ming's aggressive steal.
Then, he switched the basketball from his right hand to his left behind his back, creating the illusion for the two enclosing defenders that he was going to adjust before driving.
Finally, he whipped the basketball held in his left hand backward with a quick bounce pass.
"No-Look Pass, Yufei!!"
At the left 45-degree angle outside the three-point line, Ishiyama Jun, who had just run into position, steadily caught the pass from Wu Yufei, while the person who was supposed to guard him was now completely unable to turn back because he had gone off to trap Wu Yufei.
Ishiyama Jun had plenty of time to adjust, jump, and shoot.
Swish--
The basketball traveled toward the distant basket, drawing a graceful parabola through the air.
Wu Yufei was already retreating to defend his own half.
Ishiyama Jun's shot had standard form, a soft touch, and felt quite good. Moreover, it was an open shot—unless the heavens themselves were playing tricks, the probability of it going in was over eighty percent!
Swish!!
The crisp and pleasant sound of the basketball brushing through the net was exceptionally harsh to the ears of the Martial Garden players, however.
"Great shot!"
"Haha, only a ball passed out by you, Yufei, lets me shoot so comfortably."
What a blissful thing it was for a shooter to receive a pass at his favorite shooting spot, with every single opposing player within a three-step radius successfully drawn away by another teammate!
"You just need to run to a good spot, leave the rest to me."
"Got it!"
Possession switched, and Dai Ming dribbled up the court. Upon reaching the frontcourt, he wanted to imitate Wu Yufei and pull off a drive-and-kick, but unfortunately his intentions were far too obvious.
Slap!!
The moment the basketball was tossed from Dai Ming's hands, headed toward Miura Shota out on the perimeter, Wu Yufei thrust out his long arm and directly poked it away.
"Thanks!"
Wu Yufei said with a smile, then launched a fast break toward Martial Garden's half.
Yet just as Wu Yufei was preparing to ramp up to top speed, he suddenly recalled that his task seemed to be successfully driving and laying the ball up 10 times.
And so, Wu Yufei made a move that left all the spectators in the arena utterly shocked—he stopped!
That was right, Wu Yufei had just sprinted past the halfway line when he simply stopped, and then let Yuki Ichiro, the fastest-recovering player on Martial Garden, smoothly overtake him before picking up his speed again and charging toward the position guarded by his opponent.
"Are You Ready?"
Charging into the paint, Wu Yufei shouted out.
"Don't look down on people!!"
Feeling despised and insulted, Yuki Ichiro roared as he pounced forward.
Heh, still not calm enough.
The corners of Wu Yufei's mouth twitched upward, and the next moment, with a simple behind-the-back dribble followed by a change of pace, he breezed past Yuki Ichiro, driving into the low post to complete the layup.
Thirteen to two; the score gap between the two teams officially reached double digits.
The tiny spark of Martial Garden's counterattack had just barely flickered to life before Wu Yufei forcefully stamped it out.
"Give me the ball!!"
Although the situation was gradually heading in the worst possible direction, the Martial Garden players chose not to give up just yet. After all, the match had only just started five minutes ago, and it was by no means time to throw in the towel.
Oda actively reached out for the ball. Utilizing a screen from a teammate to momentarily shake off the limpet-like Wu Yufei, Dai Ming finally found an opening to successfully feed the ball to Oda in the post.
Looking across the entire court now, perhaps the only person who could truly claim to have even a slightly presentable advantage when matching up against Naito was Oda, and that was his technique and footwork.
After all, one had been playing basketball ever since childhood up until now, while the other had only just been exposed to basketball for less than a year.
Wu Yufei had just turned back to go and support Naito when Oda, who had already rushed to the basket, directly zipped a bounce pass back to the completely unguarded Dai Ming.
Without a moment's hesitation, Dai Ming pulled up for a mid-range jumper.
Swish!
Martial Garden finally welcomed its second basket.
To think of a trick like this, it seems this guy Oda actually has a bit of brains.
Wu Yufei felt a slight trace of admiration in his heart.
Yet if every single one of Martial Garden's offenses required making such a huge fuss, it ultimately wouldn't have any impact on the overall situation on the court.
Wu Yufei quickly sought out Ohno Kazuki in the paint. After softly whispering a few instructions to him, he patted the other man on the shoulder, then dribbled toward the frontcourt.
Miuradai's offense remained efficient. This time, relying once again on the pick-and-roll tactic between Ohno Kazuki and Wu Yufei, they instantly pierced Martial Garden's defense, ultimately culminating in a brilliant assist from Wu Yufei for Ohno to slam it home with a dunk. The entire process was as smooth as flowing water, without a shred of drag.
On the next possession, when Martial Garden attempted to replicate the offensive pattern of the previous play once more, the basketball was directly intercepted by the sharp-eyed Murasame Kengo.
"We aren't fools who will trip over the exact same stone twice!"
Dropping such a taunting remark, Wu Yufei and Murasame charged toward Martial Garden's half, one on the left and one in the middle.
Encountering Miura Shota who had retreated to defend in the middle, the two executed a clean wall-pass combination, neatly bypassing him and surging into the paint.
Wu Yufei caught the basketball and softly tossed it high into the air. Seeing this, Murasame leaped up high.
A picture-perfect alley-oop slam dunk was executed by the two of them.
When the basketball was fiercely pounded down into the hoop by Murasame, the echo could be clearly heard throughout the entire arena.
That was right, the Martial Garden cheerleaders, who had previously been out-shouting one another, had all fallen completely silent at this moment, and some of the more sentimental girls were even lowering their heads and sobbing quietly.
They simply could not accept that the stars in their eyes were being beaten to a pulp by a bunch of outsiders right now.
Yet what a pity, competitive sports were just this cruel; if your skills fell short of others, then you could only be ruthlessly beaten down!
