Daybreak had barely arrived when a middle-aged man in a white undershirt yawned as he pushed his breakfast cart to the roadside and got busy.
A slightly cool mist brushed against his face. He shuddered, and instantly felt much more awake.
"Boss, ten jianbing guozi, two eggs in each. Thanks." The voice sounded young. The owner looked up in surprise at the tall youth standing a head above him. "Ten?"
"Yeah. Oh, remember the crispy crackers, no fried dough sticks."
"Young people these days sure get plenty of nutrition. Every one of them is tall and sturdy. That's good."
Skillfully spreading out the batter and cracking two eggs over it, the owner lifted the pancake with his spatula. "Young man, want all the toppings?"
"No dietary restrictions. Put everything in."
"Got it."
The owner moved swiftly, handing over ten finished jianbing guozi in less than a few minutes. "Enjoy."
Wiping away his sweat, his eyes kept drifting toward Chen Xu. When he saw him take one out and start wolfing it down, his gaze stopped moving and fixed squarely on him.
One, two, three...
After all ten had gone into his stomach, Chen Xu and the owner fell into a strange staring contest.
"Young man..." The owner forced a smile and looked away. "When people eat my jianbing guozi, I like to watch. Sorry, don't mind me."
"Another ten." Chen Xu's calm voice sounded. Hearing it, the owner squeezed out a smile. "Sure thing, please wait a moment. Young man, you've got quite an appetite. Being able to eat is a blessing, a blessing indeed."
