Ah Yin's home was a simple little flat, with one bedroom and one living room.
Aside from a few chairs and stools, the room contained only ordinary cooking utensils. Ah Yin led Dugu Chen inside.
Faced with such a humble home, before Dugu Chen could say anything, Ah Yin blushed first.
"Young Master Dugu, the conditions are rather poor. Please... bear with it."
"A humble dwelling may be plain, but virtue makes it fragrant."
Dugu Chen smiled knowingly, completely unbothered.
He sat openly on a stool that had long fallen into disrepair and smiled at Ah Yin.
"Miss Ah Yin is the most gentle and beautiful girl I have ever met. Even in such a humble home, I would be very happy to stay here. Thank you for having me."
"You needn't be so polite!"
Ah Yin's face reddened further, and her hands and feet grew a little flustered. "Young Master Dugu, you must be hungry. I'll make you some noodles!"
With that, she walked to the stove and began preparing the meal.
Dugu Chen's eyes lit up. He stood and walked behind Ah Yin, a bright smile curling across his lips. "Miss Ah Yin, let me help. It must be hard for you to do everything alone..."
"Thank you, Young Master Dugu!"
Ah Yin gave him a sweet smile before starting to wash the vegetables.
Dugu Chen sat on a little stool before the stove. He raised his fingertips slightly, and a blaze of brilliant light ignited at his fingertips.
Then, he flicked his finger.
The flame instantly fell into the pile of firewood, and roaring flames sprang up in an instant.
As Dugu Chen lit the fire, Ah Yin finished preparing the ingredients.
The two worked together, and before long, they had served up a large pot of noodles. Dugu Chen carried it to the table, ready for dinner.
The noodles gleamed beautifully and gave off an enticing fragrance. Just one whiff was enough to stir one's appetite.
A gentle light flashed in Dugu Chen's eyes as he quietly looked at Ah Yin. "Miss Ah Yin, you are truly skilled. Tonight may be the best meal I've had since I began wandering."
Ah Yin covered her mouth and smiled. "You flatter me, Young Master. Let me serve you the first bowl."
As she spoke, she picked up a porcelain bowl from the table, filled it with noodles, and slowly pushed it before Dugu Chen. Happiness shone in her eyes.
"Young Master, hurry and try it!"
Dugu Chen nodded slightly, picked up the chopsticks, and took a big slurp.
After only one bite, he nearly cried...
It was so damn delicious!
What kind of heavenly delicacy was this? After eating Ah Yin's cooking, he could not help recalling that pot of swill the old bastard had made for him on the island that night.
Even a dog would not eat it!
"Young Master, Young Master?"
Just then, a soft call pulled him from his "food fantasy." At some point, Ah Yin had stood up and leaned toward him, extending her hand to wave gently before his eyes.
Their faces were very close. Dugu Chen could see her clearly: a delicate, soft oval face, her skin fair and translucent beneath the candlelight.
Most eye-catching were her sea-blue eyes, free of the slightest impurity, like two sapphires from the sea.
As his gaze drifted slightly downward, a jade-white ravine appeared before his eyes...
"So beautiful..."
Dugu Chen unconsciously spoke the words in his heart aloud.
A natural blush spread across Ah Yin's cheeks. She pursed her lips and quickly sat back down like a startled rabbit, shyly turning her gaze away.
Only after a moment did Dugu Chen slowly come back to his senses. Seeing Ah Yin's cheeks red enough to bleed, his own face instantly burned with embarrassment.
Damn it, I think I said what I was thinking out loud!
He lowered his head, not daring to look at Ah Yin again, and could only focus on eating his noodles.
Their dinner ended amid that strange atmosphere.
After dinner, the two went into the room to rest.
The room was not large, but it was fairly clean and elegant. The furnishings were simple, but the bed was large enough for two people without any problem.
After entering the room, Ah Yin felt her heart constantly racing. She was reserved and slightly flustered, having completely lost the gentle calmness she had displayed at the beginning.
Several rosy clouds had appeared on her beautiful face. She had lost some of her cool, ethereal grace and gained the girlish charm unique to a young maiden.
Dugu Chen smiled slightly. "Miss Ah Yin, thank you so much for today. You should get into bed and rest first."
"Ah? This..."
Ah Yin forced herself to remain calm, but her heart pounded wildly. Her cheeks seemed ready to bury themselves in her full chest. He... couldn't be thinking...
"I'll sleep on the floor tonight. By the way, Miss Ah Yin, you should have a rug or something in your room, right?"
Dugu Chen scratched the back of his head and grinned, a gentle expression appearing on his face.
As he spoke, he walked to the small open space beside the bed, reached out to brush away the dust, and, without caring that he was wearing white robes, plopped down onto the cold floor.
The unease in Ah Yin's heart vanished, replaced by a warm current stirring deep inside her.
She stepped forward slowly, her cheeks faintly flushed, and reached out to pull him up from the ground.
"How can I let you sleep on the floor?"
"The ground is cold at night and heavy with damp. The bed is large. We... can squeeze in. We should still be able to sleep."
Dugu Chen awkwardly touched his brow. His face turned red in a flash, from his neck all the way to his ears. "N-no, Miss Ah Yin, this... how can we sleep together?"
"I should sleep on the floor tonight. Really, the floor is quite nice!"
Dugu Chen laughed, but he did not release Ah Yin's hand. Her slender, jade-like arm was incredibly soft, its warm touch like fine mutton-fat jade—soft and delicate, making it hard to let go.
After the two repeatedly insisted, Dugu Chen ultimately could not bear to reject Miss Ah Yin's kindness.
On the bed, Ah Yin slept on the inside and Dugu Chen on the outside. A thick crimson quilt lay between them, separating their bodies.
"Miss Ah Yin, you truly are a good girl—gentle and considerate. Whoever is fortunate enough to marry you in the future will have earned a blessing over three lifetimes."
Dugu Chen rested one hand beneath his head and gazed at the ceiling at a forty-five-degree angle, the corners of his lips lifting slightly.
Ah Yin lay on her side with her back to him, her head slightly lowered. If the lights were turned on, Dugu Chen would have discovered that her face was already completely red.
Hearing his words, Ah Yin's lips curved into a bright smile.
Yet she said nothing. She gently covered her face with one hand and slowly curled her legs toward her stomach. Her eyelashes fluttered like butterflies, and she could not calm down no matter what.
"Um... actually, I'm not as good as you say I am!"
Ah Yin opened her mouth, her voice as soft as a mosquito's. She wanted to say something to ease the awkwardness, but the words caught in her throat, becoming a muffled whimper.
"Don't call me Young Master anymore. Call me by my name, or call me Little Chen." Dugu Chen chuckled, seemingly recalling something as a ripple of light flashed through his eyes.
"Miss Ah Yin, you are a few years older than me. How about I call you Big Sister?"
"Big Sister Ah Yin, what do you think of that?"
Dugu Chen sat up and looked at Ah Yin expectantly.
Under the moonlight, the young man's figure was tall and slender, broad-chested and wide-shouldered. His white robes shimmered beneath the moon's glow.
