Background / History

True Person Yu Qing is the current sect master of the Profound Heaven Sect, the foremost sect of the Lingshu Heaven Domain. He resides at Clear Parasol Hall on Misty Spirit Peak and initially has Shen Yuxi as his only direct disciple 1.

He rescued Shen Yuxi from a Demonic Cultivator after the disciple was critically injured while retrieving a treasure from the Heavenly Secrets Pavilion. Yu Qing witnessed the artifact merge into Shen Yuxi's body, then consulted Xuanji Zi, who identified Shen as a crucial thread of survival for the Profound Heaven Sect 1.

After Shen awakened, Yu Qing became the first person to hear his involuntary Heart Voice. He recognized that the ability was neither conventional spiritual-sense transmission nor a deliberate act by Shen, and began quietly investigating its connection to the Heaven-Peeking Treasure and its apparent prophetic accuracy 1 4. He ordered those aware of the Heart Voice to conceal it from Shen and behave normally around him 8.

Yu Qing later acted on Shen's prophecy of True Person Yulan's betrayal. He isolated Shen behind a barrier for more than half a year, gradually stripped Yulan of access to key sect affairs, arranged surveillance, and coordinated the confrontation that exposed Yulan as a Demonic Cultivator 115 116 126. The plan succeeded, but Shen and several disciples were severely injured, leaving Yu Qing burdened by guilt over the danger they faced 126.

The revelation that his eldest martial brother survived as a Ghost Cultivator reopened one of Yu Qing's deepest regrets. Determined not to fail his senior brother again, he sought contact through Ye Jingxuan and offered Plain Spirit Peak to Wen Mu should he return to the sect 134 153 154.

Appearance

Yu Qing usually maintains a solemn, meticulous bearing, with his long hair secured beneath a jade crown and broad-sleeved Daoist robes. His composure visibly breaks when Shen Yuxi is endangered, leaving him haggard and disheveled 114.

  • Commonly wears ash-blue Daoist robes at Clear Parasol Hall 109.
  • Has graying hair, normally kept precisely arranged beneath a jade crown 114.
  • Wore a rare blue-purple robe with narrow sword sleeves and loosely tied hair when meeting Wen Mu 153.
  • Presents a gentle, approachable expression in public, even when concealing urgent concerns 333.

Personality

Yu Qing is outwardly mild, composed, and considerate. As sect master, he maintains an even demeanor during crises and political disputes, carefully choosing what information to reveal and when to reveal it 347 353. His gentleness is genuine, but it is paired with a firm, commanding presence that can silence a hall or intimidate hostile cultivators when necessary 349 356.

He is deeply protective of his disciples, particularly Shen Yuxi. He repeatedly nurses Shen through grave injuries, shields him from rumors and assassins, and refuses to abandon him even when protecting him may endanger the sect's reputation 98 101 134. This care sometimes becomes overprotectiveness, as seen in Shen's prolonged confinement after the prophecy concerning Yulan 115 116.

Yu Qing prefers patient, controlled strategy to impulsive confrontation. Rather than openly move against Yulan before securing proof, he quietly limited the elder's authority and waited for an opportunity to expose him 116 117. He is also willing to acknowledge his own mistakes and seek cooperation from other factions when the broader cultivation world is at risk 356 359.

Abilities & Skills

Spirit Division Cultivation and Sword Dao

Yu Qing is a Spirit Division-stage great cultivator and an accomplished Sword Dao practitioner, placing him among the highest-ranking experts in the cultivation world 1 352.

  • Can defeat or restrain high-level Demonic Cultivators, including the one who nearly killed Shen Yuxi 1.
  • Subdued a disguised Ten Thousand Swords Sect elder with Sword Qi after forcing Devil Qi from his body 349.
  • His spiritual perception is refined enough to distinguish Shen Yuxi's Heart Voice from ordinary spiritual-sense transmission 1.
  • Can heal lesser injuries with gentle spiritual power and assist disciples in stabilizing their realms after tribulation 178.

Protective Sword Qi

Yu Qing placed three strands of protective Sword Qi within Shen Yuxi's body as emergency protection 115.

  • The Sword Qi can activate in a life-threatening situation.
  • Activating all three strands imposes a severe cost on Shen, consuming substantial blood essence and spiritual power.
  • The protection nearly damaged Shen's foundation when it activated against a high-level Demonic Cultivator, making it unsuitable as a routine safeguard for a lower-realm disciple 115.

Barriers and Restrictive Spells

Yu Qing is capable of creating powerful barriers and imposing restrictive spells to protect sect secrets and vulnerable disciples.

  • Cast a Silencing Spell on Wen Jian, preventing him from disclosing Shen Yuxi's Heart Voice through speech, letters, or magical communication 4.
  • Maintained a barrier around Shen Yuxi's confinement that even elders could not enter without his permission 116.
  • Can establish soundproof barriers that block external detection, divine sense, and voice-transmission artifacts 154.
  • Uses defensive barriers to protect allies during combat preparations and sect crises 115 126.

Soul Investigation

Yu Qing is willing to use forceful soul arts when confronting demonic threats.

  • Conducted a soul search on captured Demonic Cultivators to investigate the conspiracy surrounding Spirit-Eating Gu 215.
  • Proposed using the Soul-Quelling Bell in a blood test intended to detect demonic qi, while openly acknowledging its limitations 357.
  • Convened sect leaders, elders, and specialists to develop more reliable methods of identifying hidden Demonic Cultivators 357.

Former Divination

Yu Qing once possessed an ability to glimpse fragments of the future, but the Heavenly Dao later withdrew this power 337.

  • His later actions rely primarily on Shen Yuxi's prophecies, gathered intelligence, and careful investigation rather than personal divination 337 361.
  • He remains cautious toward heavenly secrets and seeks advice from Xuanji Zi and Yun Mufeng when Shen suffers backlash from revealing them 333.
