Background / History

Chu Maoming is Chu Tian’s elder brother, twelve years his senior. As the Chu family’s late-born child, Chu Tian was raised with extensive indulgence; Maoming continues to call him “Little Treasure” and routinely carries candy to coax him. 18 19

Before the story’s current events, he used the Chu family’s influence to help the original Chu Tian obtain Gu Shiyan’s guest slot on Haunted Mystery Exploration. When Chu Tian later calls in distress and asks for another slot, Maoming immediately agrees and is prepared to make a further investment. 2

Believing Chu Tian’s interest in entertainment to be a passing whim, Maoming established the shell company Sugar Sugar Entertainment with an initial investment of one million yuan. He recruited Wu Hui, an established top agent, as Chu Tian’s exclusive manager so that someone capable could protect and supervise his younger brother. 16 19

When Chu Tian persists in acting, Maoming expands his support: he provides an assistant, styling team, nanny van, RV, and other high-end arrangements. He also places the economics graduate Little Cai and national sanda champion Little Huang at Chu Tian’s side. 23 26

Personality

Chu Maoming is fiercely indulgent toward Chu Tian, to the point of agreeing to unreasonable requests, funding his ventures, and personally mobilizing protection whenever he believes Chu Tian may be in danger. His concern manifests as constant fussing over Chu Tian’s comfort, food, safety, and injuries. 2 16 49

His protectiveness is paired with a sharp tongue and a short temper. He scolds Chu Tian for being hurt or acting recklessly, yet immediately softens when Chu Tian becomes upset and even apologizes to calm him down. 49 50

Maoming is initially distrustful of Gu Shiyan, whom he sees as the man Chu Tian entered the entertainment industry to pursue. After speaking privately with Gu Shiyan, however, he acknowledges that Gu Shiyan is “all right”; after Gu Shiyan defends Chu Tian, Maoming’s assessment becomes more favorable. 18 20 50

Though he supplies capital and personnel, Maoming does not force himself into areas outside his expertise. As chief investor, he leaves operational authority to Zheng Fengping rather than micromanaging the company. 45
