Chapter 1

"Sign this divorce agreement."

The alpha showed no extra expression. His attitude was rigid, and he was unwilling to give his Omega wife any room for negotiation.

Their marriage had been brief. Less than two weeks had passed from their wedding to their divorce, and the number of times they had met could be counted on two fingers. There had been no emotional foundation to this marriage at all.

The Omega lowered his eyes, his brows knitting slightly. A trace of difficulty showed on his fair, delicate face. He raised his aquamarine eyes and gazed dazedly at Gu Lin before him.

His face was pale, and his lightly pressed lips seemed coated in a cold, glazed sheen. Even the fingers holding the pen had turned white, making him look exceptionally pitiful. He slowly set the pen down, looked up at him, and signed, Why?

The man's black-gold eyes were intensely oppressive. He stared at the Omega and said coldly, "I don't like you. Is that reason enough?"

Gu Lin had been forced by his grandfather to marry Su Yu. The old man had loved controlling and pressuring him since he was young. Even before dying, he had arranged a marriage for him. If he did not marry Su Yu, he would lose his status as heir.

In truth, he had little affection for the old man. The moment the man was gone, he began planning his divorce from Su Yu.

On one hand, he wanted to divorce Su Yu because he was dissatisfied with the old man's arrangements. On the other, he had no interest whatsoever in Omegas like Su Yu, weak and helpless and capable only of clinging to an alpha.

"Don't worry. This agreement is nothing but beneficial to you."

After all, several of his uncles were still watching him, so the divorce could not be made public immediately. The divorce certificate would have to wait a while as well. On the surface, Su Yu was still his wife and would continue living with him. He merely wanted Su Yu to understand early on that they would have to divorce eventually.

The quiet Su Yu lowered his eyes. His long, curled lashes trembled. He seemed somewhat resistant, and even his movement as he picked up the pen to sign carried a hint of struggle and hesitation.

The alpha's brows had already furrowed. He lowered his crossed legs, seemingly out of patience. Just as he was about to speak, Su Yu swiftly signed his name on the divorce agreement.

Signing a divorce agreement took so damn long. I nearly lost control and threw the pen. Good thing my resolve was strong enough to keep hold of it.

A voice suddenly emerged. It spoke extremely quickly, yet every word was clear, its tone clean and mellow.

Gu Lin's gaze fell on Su Yu. He had kept his head lowered and had not spoken.

What?

Had he imagined it?

At least give me some kind of response. Stop keeping your head down. You signed it, so get up and leave already.

...Can I just carry myself out?

That voice sounded somewhat frantic.

There were only Su Yu and him in this room. Su Yu had not spoken, and he was a mute besides. So who was it? Gu Lin stared at the Omega before him, who still had his head lowered, his gaze carrying faint scrutiny.

The Omega seemed to notice his gaze and raised his head slightly. A trace of reluctance showed in his emerald-like eyes. To others, he appeared to be gazing lovingly at the alpha before him.

But that was not the case. He simply could not control his own body.

Thank heavens, we're finally divorced.

If I could talk and didn't have to pretend to be mute, I'd definitely say a few things and teach you some manners.

Gu Lin: "...?"

What was that supposed to mean?

The atmosphere in the office became exceptionally silent, the pressure stiflingly low. Gu Lin's thin lips were tightly pressed, his face frosty. His black-gold eyes were deep and terrifying; merely staring at someone was enough to make them afraid.

Su Yu did not know what was happening. He only wanted to leave quickly, but his body could not make any response, as though it truly still clung to the man before him.

He tried to control his body, but it was useless. At this moment, he was like an observer, able only to see the scene before him and unable to do anything. His body's reactions completely went against his will. He was like a puppet on strings.

Su Yu gave up and pinned his hopes on Gu Lin. Yet Gu Lin showed no response either, merely wearing a cold expression.

What's wrong with my ex-husband? Could you at least react and let me leave? No, I can roll out too.

Finally, Gu Lin slowly spoke his name. He was not certain whether the voice he had heard belonged to the person before him. It was too unbelievable, after all. Besides, Su Yu's weak and helpless appearance did not seem fake at all. His expression and movements were extremely sincere.

Heavens, why has Gu Lin become so wishy-washy too? Where did his decisive, dictatorial nature go?

Gu Lin's brow twitched sharply.

Decisive and dictatorial?

Was that Su Yu's true assessment of him?

For some reason, he began to believe that he had not imagined it. Su Yu truly was speaking, and what he said was the deepest, most genuine thoughts in his heart. He had never expected the Omega before him to act one way in public and another in private. It caught him off guard.

"The matter between you and me cannot be mentioned to anyone for the time being. Understand?"

Su Yu was silent for a moment before slowly nodding.

Gu Lin narrowed his eyes, the movement extremely slight. Su Yu was accustomed to lowering his head and did not notice it at all. Gu Lin was testing him. He wanted to confirm his suspicions, not see Su Yu's surface-level reaction.

Sure enough, that clear voice emerged again. But its owner sounded impatient, his final syllables drawn out with a hint of complaint.

I know, I know. So annoying. Let me go already.

At last, Gu Lin spoke as though granting him mercy. "If there's nothing else, leave. I'll notify you about the divorce certificate another day when I have time."

Su Yu nodded lightly. He looked very obedient, always appearing to accept everything without resistance. Of course, Gu Lin would indeed have thought so if he had not heard Su Yu's inner thoughts.

Su Yu was very happy now, so happy he wanted to beat drums and gongs in celebration.

At the same time, Gu Lin found him incredibly noisy. Only after Su Yu had gone far away did his ears finally get some peace.

Gu Lin rubbed his brow and carefully recalled what he had heard just now. Something felt off. He remembered that the Omega from the Su family truly was mute, yet Su Yu had just said he was pretending.

His eyes, cold as stars, darkened slightly. Then he made a call. Though he had already guessed the answer, he still wanted to confirm his suspicions.

He truly had not expected that even the old man could misjudge someone.
