Chu Yang tossed a piece of broken silver onto the counter. "Bring us a decent spread, heat a big pot of water, and find someone who can mend clothes..."
Halfway through, his gaze shifted to Su Wanwan, who was holding a pile of clothes. He immediately changed his tune.
"Forget it. No need to find anyone. She can do it."
The shopkeeper froze, then promptly smiled. "Ah, yes, yes. So this young lady is quite handy."
The smile on Su Wanwan's face nearly slipped, yet she still had to answer gently, "You flatter me, shopkeeper."
Chu Yang turned and headed upstairs. "Don't just stand there. Follow."
On the second floor, Tang Monk and Sun Wukong shared a room, Chu Yang had one to himself, and Su Wanwan was placed in the small room next to his. The door was narrow, and the window faced the rear courtyard. Though the bed was cramped, it was far better than sleeping on a pile of straw.
When Su Wanwan entered, she finally let out a small breath of relief.
At least tonight, she would not have to sleep beside that White Donkey.
She had barely set down her bundle when Chu Yang's voice came from outside.
"Miss Su, don't lie down. Come eat. When you're done, mend the clothes."
She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and only then replied, "Coming."
A full table of dishes had already been laid out in the downstairs hall.
Braised Carp, stir-fried vegetables, a large steaming bowl of mutton soup, and a stack of freshly made flatbread. Sun Wukong sat there, his chopsticks moving so fast they nearly left afterimages. When he saw her come down, he warmly called out, "Miss Su, hurry up. Any slower and I'll eat your share too."
"Thank you, Great Sage."
