What surprised Mo Fei even more was yet to come.
A blinding beam shot out of the darkness. The mage called Berserk Gandalf held a sword in his left hand and a staff in his right, wrapped in seven or eight protective spells. While casting an empowered illumination spell to disperse the darkness ahead, he actually charged straight in, intending to fight in melee.
Haste, Lightness, Force of the Gale... With several buffs stacked on him, this guy's movements actually had something of the feel of a wuxia master using qinggong. A dozen or so high-level monks, assassins, and shadow dancers also charged in, relying on abilities and talents such as Supernatural Perception, Darkvision, and Shadow Walk that let them move freely through darkness, completely ignoring the effects of Dark Descent.
There were not many of them, but every one was high-level and well-equipped. Letting them get close would be troublesome.
Lava Blood!
Scorching flames rose from the Black Dragon's body, as though the entire dragon were burning. The flames vanished in an instant, yet the blood flowing from his body immediately turned into blazing lava. With a flap of the Black Dragon's wings, Lava Blood splattered in every direction, bursting into flame upon hitting the ground and forming a sea of molten fire.
The monks, assassins, and shadow dancers were all fragile targets. They hurriedly dodged aside, no longer able to spare any thought for pursuit.
Damn, another skill he hadn't unlocked! Mo Fei was truly shocked this time. Could this guy freely use every skill in the talent tree? Were the three-choice talent points only a restriction for himself?
Murphys (Ancient Black Dragon): "Feel this ancient power! Feel the fury in my heart! Pitiful mortals, fear me! Flee from me! It is your only choice!"
Just when Mo Fei thought Murphys had gotten carried away in battle—indeed, the other players clearly thought the same, each of them assuming a wary stance—the Black Dragon suddenly turned without hesitation and fled toward the other side of the city.
Only several seconds later did the players finally react.
"Damn it, don't let it get away!"
"Get him!"
"The boss is almost dead! Catch up already!"
The adventurers all used their own methods. Some summoned mounts, some transformed into beasts, some activated sprints, and some Blinked away. They had only one goal: pursue Murphys.
The heroes, meanwhile, were far calmer. They all turned to look at Antonidas.
As Dalaran's leader, Antonidas's face was as dark as water.
"Do not worry, everyone. This evil Black Dragon will never escape Dalaran. Gather around me, and let us give it a surprise."
White flashes of Blink kept appearing around him. With a flash, the Shadow Mage called Voldemort Himself appeared in front of Murphys. He raised his wand and immediately unleashed his hero skill—Shadow Prison.
Shadow Power transformed into more than a dozen invisible chains, binding the Black Dragon tightly.
These invisible chains had no physical form. The moment one was broken, it would immediately reform, leaving the Black Dragon completely unable to break free.
Voldemort Himself (Shadow Mage): "Hahahaha, this boss kill is mine! Murphys, obediently accept your death! Avada Kedavra!"
Hero Skill—Finger of Death!
A red beam struck Murphys squarely in the chest, and Murphys felt a sharp pain in his chest.
-
4963!
A huge crimson number appeared. Finger of Death was an instant-death spell, with a chance to kill its target in a single blow. Even if the instant-death effect was resisted, it would still deal a massive amount of damage. Fortunately, Black Dragons were naturally resistant to shadows, and with the incredible Fortification of an Ancient Black Dragon, the damage was not too outrageous.
Murphys roared and activated Death Berserk!
The frenzied Black Dragon used Dragon Assault and slammed forward. The enormous force broke and dispersed dozens of shadow chains at once. Voldemort Himself was so frightened that he Blinked aside. Murphys did not bother tangling with him. At this point, his only goal was to escape.
Dragon Assault! Dragon Assault! Dragon Assault!
The Black Dragon rampaged through the city, charging left and right. He used the skill as if it had no cooldown at all, completely unconcerned with the buildings blocking his path. Sure enough, this made him incredibly fast. Even the adventurers on horseback could not catch him, while only the nearby magic towers continued firing at him.
Boom! Another tall building collapsed under the impact, and the majestic outline of Violet Citadel appeared ahead.
Before the castle gates, a gigantic War Golem blocked the Black Dragon's path. It was the war machine the arcanists of Dalaran were most proud of, standing over thirty meters tall—an entire head taller than the previous Vault Guardian.
Dragon Assault! The Black Dragon charged again.
It's over! Mo Fei thought. Dragon Assault was indeed a decent skill in a one-on-one fight, but he was being pursued right now. Once he crashed into something and stopped, he would immediately be swarmed. With that thing's sheer mass, knocking it over would not be easy.
Yet to his astonishment, Murphys's body suddenly shrank halfway through Dragon Assault. By the time he reached the giant, he had transformed into human form and charged straight between its legs.
He landed, rolled, and had barely regained his footing when Murphys suddenly seemed to sense something and looked up at the castle. At a tower window, a little girl with brilliant golden hair was watching him with a curious expression.
Murphys gave the little girl a wicked smile, swiftly transformed back into a Black Dragon, and rushed off in another direction.
Holy crap, that worked too!?
Still, who was that blonde little girl? She looked kind of familiar.
Boom! An explosion caused by a massive Arcane Orb fired from a magic tower snapped Mo Fei out of his thoughts.
He got his bearings. By now, Murphys had fought his way from Dalaran's northern district to its southern district.
Most of the defenders and adventurers here had been transferred away, leaving the area unusually open for the moment. Unfortunately, Murphys still could not take flight. More than a hundred Gryphon Riders had already gathered above the barrier, confronting the Black Dragon Legion outside it. The moment he left the ground, he would inevitably be swarmed.
Besides, the magic towers were not just for show. On the ground, he could use their blind spots to evade attacks. But once he took to the air, there would be nowhere to hide. He would inevitably become the focus of concentrated fire.
Another group of adventurers blocked the way.
Murphys charged forward without hesitation. The instant he drew close, he roared—Dragon Might!
The adventurers scattered in terror, all falling into a frightened state.
Almost there! Almost there! The surrounding buildings were gradually becoming lower, no longer giving off the cramped, constricted feeling of the city center. The magic towers around him were also becoming fewer and farther apart. Looking at the vast sky ahead, a sense of freedom like a bird soaring through endless heavens washed over him.
Damn, he was actually going to make it!
Mo Fei thought excitedly, and he could also feel the excitement in Murphys's heart.
It was time!
The Black Dragon suddenly shot into the sky, beating his wings with all his strength. The surrounding magic towers fired deadly spells, but their firepower was no longer sufficient to form a dense barrage and shoot the Black Dragon down.
With agility utterly unfitting for his size, he dodged the incoming magic. He evaded a deadly prismatic arcane beam and tanked several massive Arcane Orbs. He still had over eighty thousand health left. It was enough!
There! Mo Fei could already see the distant sky.
The few remaining mage towers kept firing desperately, but their sparse firepower was no longer enough to stop him.
In the distant sky, the Black Dragon Lords noticed what was happening and immediately converged on him.
Kutlafist (Ancient Black Dragon): "A tenacious fellow. I did not expect him to survive."
Telhorason (Black Dragon Lord): "Haha, what a surprise."
Somerfield (Black Dragon Lord): "Should we go down and support him?"
The moment he said that, the area fell silent.
"A bunch of spineless cowards! But it does not matter. I am about to be free! Finally, truly free..." Murphys muttered, excitedly beating his wings again. Dalaran's outermost city wall had appeared ahead. As long as he crossed it, he would basically be safe.
But suddenly, an intense white light burst from a defensive platform along the city wall. Dozens of figures appeared faintly within the dazzling glow. As the light faded, the mages of the Dalaran Council, led by Antonidas, were all there.
Holy crap, a group Teleportation Array?
Mo Fei had only heard of this magic before. It was said to be a strategic-level spell capable of instantly teleporting hundreds of troops to any location. Though it was not especially powerful directly as a hero skill, it could turn the tide of a battle. He had not expected to actually witness it today.
Antonidas was the one who had cast the spell. He coldly watched the Black Dragon flying toward him, raising his staff high. "You think you can escape my judgment, evil Black Dragon? Dalaran Council—destroy that beast!"
More than a dozen archmages and dozens of high-ranking mages attacked almost simultaneously. With no adventurers getting in their way now, they could finally unleash the spells they excelled at to their hearts' content. All kinds of destructive magic targeted the same enemy.
Fireballs as large as washbasins, lightning bolts as thick as buckets, dense Arcane Missiles like rain, and all manner of high-level spells Mo Fei could not identify all descended upon the Black Dragon.
