The instant that strange energy appeared, Qin Ran looked toward the depths of the outpost. By the time it lunged at Valen, he was already standing in front of him.

Everyone saw the scene of darkness descending.

They watched soldiers being slaughtered one after another.
They watched souls being extracted, dragged into the darkness, and tortured further until... they lost all reason.
Then everything vanished.
A man so enormous he could scarcely be called human appeared before their eyes.
He sat cross-legged on the ground, devouring the antelope before him in huge mouthfuls. Blood trickled from the corners of his mouth, spilling onto his open shirt and chest.

The man roared with laughter. The blood staining his teeth made his already rugged face look ferocious.
Even an illusion of him sent a chill through them.

The outpost before them came back into view.

A Burning Dawn soldier cried out.
He stared ahead in disbelief, his raised finger trembling incessantly as uncontrollable fear spread across his face.
But no one laughed at him.
Most of those present wore the same terrified expression.
They had witnessed the last thing they ever wanted to see: the corpses
