The killing intent in the gazes fixed on Qin Ran felt like blades pressed against his neck. His eyes narrowed.
He looked at the castle guards charging toward him, braced his right hand against the saddle, and sprang forward. His legs lashed out in a sweeping half-circle. Amid a string of dull thuds, he sent at least a dozen guards flying. They knocked down the men behind them, leaving a whole swath of guards rolling across the ground.
A clear path opened before the three of them.
"Get on!"
As Lawless rode past, he grabbed Qin Ran's outstretched right hand and pulled hard. Qin Ran flipped through the air and landed steadily back in the saddle.
"Hyah!"
Lawless shouted again, and the three warhorses surged forward.
"Loose arrows!"
"Loose arrows!"
The castle guards, their attention drawn to the riders, shouted one after another.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
Arrows rained down at once.
Clack, clack, clack!
Lawless showed no sign of slowing. His sword swept left and right, its overlapping afterimages forming a defensive circle around them.
It blocked most of the arrows.
An advanced skill!
Qin Ran recognized at a glance that Lawless was using a skill above the basic tier.
Its level could not be very high, though.
Otherwise, it would not have blocked only most of the arrows.
It would have stopped every last one.
Even so, it took a great deal of pressure off Qin Ran and Hans.
Qin Ran and Hans easily deflected the occasional arrow that slipped through.
Qin Ran used a spear he had snatched along the way.
Hans used the standard rebel sword that had belonged to Lawless.
Unlike Lawless, Qin Ran and Hans relied entirely on their eyesight and anticipation to knock the arrows aside. It was not efficient, but it was enough
