Through the glass of the third-floor balcony window, Kena saw what was behind her.
Or, more precisely, a demon.
A tall figure appeared out of thin air, covered in wounds and filth, with a broken sword embedded in its chest and several arrows still lodged in its back and shoulders. Black mist obscured its face, and it held a sharp blade.
Compared to the figure itself, the blade was exceptionally bright.
With its thick spine and thin edge, it was not particularly long or narrow. In fact, it looked rather bulky, like an oversized Chinese cleaver, yet even an ordinary person could not have ignored its deadly sharpness.

She kicked off the wall, turning her vertical fall into a diagonal dive.
As a half-demon, Kena knew very well that she stood no chance against a Rending Blade Ghost in midair. Even on the ground, her odds of winning were less than ten percent.
Compared to the Puppet Demon she had just encountered and the Mouth-Devouring Woman she had met earlier, the Rending Blade Ghost was more than a single tier above them.

Although she despised the Funeral Society, Kena trusted its classifications. After all, those conclusions had been reached at the cost of countless lives.
If she did not want her own life added to that
