"You two bastards!"
"You'd better explain what happened, or... I'll throw you straight into the Federation's Black Prison!"
The sheriff strode up to them, her harsh tone making Boskin shudder.
"Sheriff, I..."
"Sheriff Teresa, we found some leads on the bombing! I hope you can send people to seal off this area immediately!"
"The more people, the better, and they'll need plenty of weapons and equipment!"
Qin Ran interrupted before the young man could finish.
The sheriff glared at Qin Ran.
The ferocity in her eyes left Qin Ran in no doubt that, if she weren't a police officer, she would have punched him in the face several times.
But when Qin Ran pointed at the commando who had been shot dead nearby, his body hidden behind a car, her expression changed.
She saw the man's bulletproof vest, the pistol at his waist, his grenades, and an array of other equipment that demanded attention.
"Seal off the area!"
"Sheriff Teresa requesting backup!"
"Sheriff Teresa requesting backup!"
The sheriff gave her subordinates their orders, then picked up the radio in the patrol car and called for help.
More police soon arrived.
And they weren't ordinary officers, but equally elite SWAT personnel.
"No one approaches without my orders. Now talk. What leads do you have? If you made up a lie to dodge responsibility for this, I swear I'll make you pay a price you can't even imagine!"
The sheriff took Qin Ran aside and watched him like a leopardess.
She made no attempt to spare him her threats.
"Of course not!"
"What happened earlier was... You can ask Boskin. He can confirm that everything I've said is true!"
That was what Qin Ran told her.
"I will, so you'd better pray you haven't lied to me!"
"Keep an eye on him!"
