The night was black as ink, spreading across the sky and blotting out the stars and crescent moon.
Outside Saint Paul School, the doctors were still hard at work by torchlight. Their heavy Crow Uniforms left them drenched in sweat and gasping for breath.
But not one of them would remove this highly effective protection against the plague.
Especially after the old nun had fallen ill, the doctors had reassessed just how dangerous this plague was.
"We need more medicine!"
"And..."
"This neighborhood must be quarantined!"
One doctor spoke to the man leading them.
His voice was heavy with gravity.
He knew all too well what they would face once the quarantine began.
People could enter, but no one could leave.
Neither the living nor the dead!
If the plague could not be effectively controlled and continued to spread... this place would soon become a dead zone.
In the end, a great fire would burn it all to the ground.
Even if there were still people alive inside.
In fact, in some respects, the living would be the very targets of that fire!
Only by burning all these people to death could the plague be eradicated.
"A quarantine?"
The old nun's disciple in all but name murmured under his breath.
He knew something of the hidden circumstances, but it was also true that the plague was becoming increasingly difficult to control.
Weighing the two, the doctor called to the doctors around him.
"Everyone!"
"The situation we face is more difficult and dangerous than we imagined!"
"We... must quarantine the neighborhood!"
After a brief pause, the doctor delivered his decision.
The doctors fell silent.
In truth, when they had answered the call and come here, they had already prepared themselves.
Several doctors exchanged glances, then nodded to their leader in unison.
