Ch. 381Xilis's Dream (Continued)
Chapter Summary
Plot and Key Events
Aurora battles a massive horde of weak but numerous zombies created from despair and fear by the Zombie Demon. Mutated zombies with special abilities slow her down and prevent her from reaching him. Although Luna has defeated the Demon in her area, she is too far away to help quickly.
The Zombie Demon is on the verge of advancing to Middle Rank. Aurora refuses to retreat and launches a direct attack, destroying a powerful muscular zombie and seemingly striking the Demon with her strongest punch. However, the attack fails: the Zombie Demon survives and successfully evolves into a Mid-Tier Demon.
Recognizing the enormous gap in strength, Kelly orders Aurora to flee. Aurora agrees that continuing to fight would be suicide, but she is too slow. The newly advanced Demon attacks her, shattering her armor and bones and sending her crashing unconscious into the ground.
Before he can finish Aurora, the Zombie Demon suddenly becomes immobilized. The audience learns that Stella is using the Central Continent District’s Magic Network to amplify her Mind Magic and control him remotely. Stella can only hold him temporarily, so she calls for Xiao Bai to help destroy the Demon.
Character Development
- Aurora: Demonstrates her trademark courage and refusal to run from danger, but also shows practical judgment once the Zombie Demon reaches Middle Rank. Her defeat highlights her current limitations and reinforces that she is not yet strong enough to overcome a Mid-Tier Demon alone.
- Kelly: Acts as Aurora’s tactical support, quickly assessing the danger and urging her to retreat once the Demon advances.
- Luna: Successfully handles the Demon assigned to her but is too far away to intervene in Aurora’s crisis.
- Stella: Makes a major intervention by using the Magic Network to control a vastly stronger opponent. Her effort shows both her importance and the severe physical or magical strain involved.
- Xiao Bai: Is unexpectedly positioned as the person capable of finishing the battle, despite earlier assumptions that his poor condition would prevent him from participating.
- Fang Ming and Xiao Chun: Discuss the episode’s likely narrative purpose, especially whether Aurora’s rescue or power-up will lead to her Shining Form and how it connects to the side story.
Themes
- Courage versus recklessness: Aurora’s refusal to flee is admirable, but the chapter distinguishes bravery from blindly fighting an opponent who can kill her instantly.
- The limits of individual strength: Aurora cannot defeat the Zombie Demon alone, emphasizing the need for teamwork and stronger allies.
- Unexpected support and cooperation: Stella’s intervention and Xiao Bai’s expected assistance demonstrate that victories may depend on characters working together rather than one hero winning alone.
- Narrative expectations and subversion: The audience expects Aurora to awaken a Shining Form, but instead she is defeated and rescued by others. The chapter plays with protagonist conventions and highlights that Aurora is not the central hero of this particular storyline.
- Humor amid danger: The viewers’ joking comments about zombies, the Aurora Society, and Aurora’s embarrassing defeat contrast with the seriousness of the battle.
Character Interactions
Aurora communicates with Kelly throughout the battle, asking about Luna and receiving tactical updates. Kelly urges her to escape after the Zombie Demon advances, while Aurora initially struggles between her fighting instincts and the need for survival. Stella later contacts Xiao Bai while controlling the Demon, asking him to cooperate before she loses control. After the episode, Fang Ming tries to comfort the embarrassed Aurora by reminding her that she survived, though her defeat leaves her visibly humiliated.
